THE INTERVIEW

What should you do during the interview?

There are specific behaviours that you should do for the interview. Let's review a few of them.
  1. Shake the interviewer's hand at the beginning and end of the interview
  2. Maintain eye contact throughout the interview

  3. Listen carefully throughout the interview and focus your attention on the interviewer

  4. Do not fidget or cross your arms

  5. Be concise and clear in your answers

  6. Give specific examples to highlight your skills and experiences

  7. Remain enthusiastic and positive throughout the interview

  8. Ask questions during the interview and when the interviewer asks you if you have any questions

  9. Be yourself

  10. SMILE!!

What not to do during interviews

All of these don'ts will bring about concerns in the interviewer if they do occur. Bringing negative attention to you will not win you the job. If anything, it will be time to hit the panic button if these don'ts continue throughout the interview.

Another list of reasons why job interviews can fail is at UAB Career Services.

What questions do you want to ask the interviewer?

It's your time to ask the questions now! In a previous section of the website, you were asked to prepare some questions for the interviewer ahead of time. It is now time to bring those out and use them.

The questions that you will ask the interviewer will depend on the information that you have researched and what has been revealed during the interview. UAB Career Services has a list of possible questions to ask interviewers and so does Western State College of Colorado Interview Skills under the section "During the Interview"
