To the editor of the Daily Press

Dear Editor

I've recently have had the opportunities to volunteer for a community out reach program on the peninsula called LINK.  While helping out in many different ways at the link home office, I have found a great need to help find some knowledgeable person who knows more than me about computers.

LINK is an organization that reaches out to help, encourage, and give hope to the many homeless people on the peninsula.  They can help with many of the basic necessities such as food, shelter, and also turn them in the right direction to other organizations that can help them strive to be a contributing part of society.  Working with many of the local churches they try to give comfort and sometimes a place to lay their heads down for a descent night's sleep.  Most of the funds that LINK receives come through private donations, and often the needs out numbers the in-coming funds, so here at link we also are grateful for the volunteers from the community that we do have helping doing whatever they canto help whether it's stocking food, delivering items, helping in the office, or organizing donated clothing.

After having a conversation with the staff at LINK it has come to my attention that they just can't find someone willing to volunteer for any length of time.  After taking a look through the small computer lab, which they are trying to set up to help the needy in the community learn a few basic computer skills to assist in filling out a simple resume or application for a job, and knowing myself that basic computer skills are an asset to anyone trying to find employment.  If we could just find someone with a little experience with computers to help set up this small computer lab it would be a tremendous help.  The little I know just isn't enough to get it up and running, and yes I know after we find the way to complete this lab it will probably need someone to help keep up the maintenance  on the system.  However, I do not feel that it would take more than an hour a week just to keep it going.

Since I am new to the volunteer world I could not think of a better way to get the word out on the street that LINK was in need of some help with this computer lab. So here I am reaching out to the community hoping that there is an angel out there who would like to help.  I am willing to help and learn from anyone interested in guiding my hands.

LINK is located at 10413 Warwick Blvd. Newport News Virginia 23601

Telephone number is 757-595-3428.  Anyone interested can contact Aizat Fashola or Miriam Mackillop there at the main volunteer office.

Thank you                                            Pete Principe
