Poems

Double Edged Sword

I.

evergreens
clutter the base
with dark pine green
sloping upwards into grassy
lighter green scattered with rocks
and snowy white patches on sides of
stone cloaked in clouds and the rocky grey
crown rises up with deadly steepness and the
straight edge of a cliff jutting into a sky cutting point

II.

rain pours down in sheets pelting the road and splashing
into trees and grass and flowing in streams in the
gutters collected in puddles and water spills
over the sides of river beds where water
rushes violently crashing over rocks as
thunder cracks and clouds invade
the sky and cover the sun
with dreary
grey

III.

the dark
green bud
slowly bursts
and petals start to
expand splattering the
canvas of the world with violet
and yellow and white and the process
repeats itself until an entire field becomes a sea of
vibrant color smiling at eyes and filling hearts with passion

IV.

scarlet drips from the deep wide wound spilling
slowly into cracks in crumbling grey stone and
dark thick red liquid forms a pool of pain
that expands as more liquid red spills
out of the wound until a creature
once wild with life becomes
a hollow shriveled
reminder of
death
