| the morning after they�d left the all-night party they got in her car and drove against the wind down a highway lined with jersey walls and evergreens on their way to the scarlet rising sun lost in a pine green daydream she said they could drive to the party at the edge of eternity but the car overheated and they were stuck beside the road she walked optimistic towards the muddled horizon jerry said goodbye sadly and caught a bus home finding a few days later that his love had died in a rocket ship crash he lifted weights and beat on punching bags walked the streets a missing chess piece not sure what he was looking for in the violet night in bars drunk dazed and crazy chatting with achilles and the other lunatics screaming in glass breaking anxiousness and crying his nights away thinking of angel he stood on a bridge looking at the swirling waters below put one leg over the rail with a silver tear glistening on his cheek then looked back at the neon skyline of the city and laughed turned around angst filled and walked back home he threw bottles at tow trucks and sport utility vehicles yelled at people who tried to walk through him beat the hell out of men who stung his feelings kissed beautiful girls in the moonlight he found desire in a heart attack chick dropped his happiness in her handbag when she wasn�t looking but she walked away and wouldn�t give it back even though she didn�t want it (Continued) Back to Index E-mail the Poet |
