the morning after theyd left the all-night party
they got in her car and drove against the wind
down a highway lined with jersey walls and evergreens
on their way to the scarlet rising sun
lost in a pine green daydream

she said they could drive to the party at the edge of eternity
but the car overheated and they were stuck beside the road
she walked optimistic towards the muddled horizon
jerry said goodbye sadly and caught a bus home
finding a few days later that his love had died
in a rocket ship crash

he lifted weights and beat on punching bags
walked the streets a missing chess piece
not sure what he was looking for in the violet night
in bars drunk dazed and crazy
chatting with achilles and the other lunatics
screaming in glass breaking anxiousness
and crying his nights away thinking of angel

he stood on a bridge looking at the swirling waters below
put one leg over the rail with a silver tear glistening on his cheek
then looked back at the neon skyline of the city and laughed
turned around angst filled and walked back home

he threw bottles at tow trucks and sport utility vehicles
yelled at people who tried to walk through him
beat the hell out of men who stung his feelings
kissed beautiful girls in the moonlight

he found desire in a heart attack chick
dropped his happiness in her handbag when she wasnt looking
but she walked away and wouldnt give it back
even though she didnt want it
