| Black Sky Blues A Memorial Poem for the victims of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks of September 11, 2001 The world spins slowly on the finger of time As on a sunny day a storm cloud looms Over goliath icons standing high Towards them stolen eagles fly And we sing the black sky blues A fireball fills the jet-scarred sky People jump into the thickening gloom Towers crumble before our eyes On television screens in every room As we feel the black sky blues A city fills with frightened cries As heroes rush to quell the fumes An entire country is asking why Innocent people continue to die Weve got the black sky blues And now an angry country lies A giant awakened by painful news Ready to strike once the sorrow subsides But for now we mourn with saddened eyes As we live the black sky blues |
