Letter to the Editor,
On Wednesday, August 11, 1999, Loretta Toups Granier gained her final reward.  She was an icon to the parish of Lafourche and the community of Chackbay.  It is fitting that we make mention of what Loretta meant to us.  She was a wife, a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, and I believe she had reached the ultimate of her professions, as teacher in Lafourche Parish and religion teach of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church.  As a teacher she challenged each one of her students to reach for the highest level of their ability.  She treated each one of her students with dignity and made them realized that they were special.  She had a knack for getting her students to find and utilize all of their God given talents.

When John F. Kennedy, Jr. died it was said that, "The Prince of Camelot had died."  We in Chackbay can say, "Our Queen of Camelot has gone to her reward."  In John's gospel, Chapter 13:15 we find, "For I have set you an example, that you also should do."  Loretta has set us the example.  She has shown us that we can achieve our goals and reach to the highest level of our ability.

We were graced by God with her presence for such a short time.  She will be greatly missed.  She will live on in the people she touched and challenged, if they dare to dream, as Loretta dreamed.  To live life to its fullest and make every moment a meaningful reality, with the realization that God will be there to guide them.

Aurevoir, mon amis, until we meet again.
