| Marine Ecosystems This is a general unit offered to all Agri-Science and Techonolgy II students. The focus is on the various marine habitats found along the New England coast. Special attention is paid to human use of marine resources and the subsequent effects on the environment. |
Navigation The basic principles of coastal navigation are covered in this unit. Students identify features on charts, plot courses, and practice navigating using dead reckoning and LORAN. |
Water Quality Determination Water sampling and testing are covered in a number of settings. Students learn the appropriate methods of sampling and disposal as well as the correct means of testing. Data is analyzed and information is stored for use in developing plans and treating problems in aquariums or in tracking water quality in a local stream. |
Shellfish Aquaculture Students learn about the various species of mollusks and crustaceans found in Long Island Sound. Emphasis is placed on commercially important species. Basic life history and culturing are covered with future plans including the development of a small shellfish hatchery on site. |
