| Animal Fair This class focuses on preparation and execution of the annual Animal Fair, which takes place in late May or early June. Elementary schools from neighboring towns are invited to bring their K-2 students to the Agri-Science department, where the fair is set up. Agri-Science students teach the children about various large and small animals, and the children are allowed to learn visually and through hands-on experience. |
| Entymology (Insects) In this class students learn about the parts of insects and the different classifications of insects. Students study insects that are helpful and harmful to the environment and learn about the benefits of helpful insects. For example, ladybugs are used to control harmful insects in greenhouses. Students work on their own insect collection, using class time and personal time to collect specimens which they identify using books and pictures. |
| Equine Science Students learn about horses and the multiple areas of horse care. They also learn about different breeds of horses, and study various terms related to equine science. Research is done on diseases and the treatment and prevention of them are discussed. Construction plans of barns and stables are planned and drawn out. At times, seniors are taken horseback riding, while all students get hands-on experience by visiting nearby stables. |
| Animal Rights Focus in this class is on different aspects of animal rights. Students study various state laws concerning animal rights and find loopholes in relation to today's world. Ethical as well as practical viewpoints on different aspects of animal rights are discussed. As a class project, teams of students write up their own proposal for a law. At times, students will visit the local dog pound, or the animal control officer will come to the classroom for a presentation. |
