Around and about
The Lecrin Valley alone can provide more than enough variety to fill any holiday, but here is a taste of some other wonderful places which also lie within easy reach.

The dramatically situated coastal town of Salobrea, clinging to a rock with its castle perched on top, is a 35 minute drive away. The larger town of Almuecar a few minutes further on has an interesting market on Friday mornings. Marina del Este has nice waterfront restaurants overlooking the harbour. More secluded beaches can be found around La Herradura. A little further on still lies the more cosmopolitan coastal town of Nerja with its famous caves. In the other direction along the Almeria Road lies the Cabo de Gato, a nature reserve of pristine sand-dunes, dramatic rocks and crystal waters, famous for its diving & snorkelling.

Historic Granada (with its vibrant Moroccan quarter and the attractions of the Alhambra and the Generalife) are a 30 minute drive. The  spa town of Lanjarron, gateway to the Alpujarras (the highest villages in Spain) is 20 minutes.

The ancient walled city of Cordoba with the Mesquita, can be reached in 2 hours along the castle-studded Route of the Caliphs. Alhama de Granada, perched on a cliff with its Roman baths & the warm waters of Lake Bermejales for swimming nearby, is a drive of about 45 minutes & Gaudix with its weird rock formations & cave dwelling troglydites is 1hr.
