Out Of The Blue (1987)
Still
in high school when she did this, it was evident right from this first album
that Deborah had a knack in composing great pop tunes. Only In My Dreams
was her first single, and Foolish Beat her first number one (this
song kinda reminds me of George Michael's Careless Whisper). Out
Of The Blue is the perfect pop melody while Shake Your Love is
totally infectious. Another gem is the last track Between The Lines.
(*This was the second cassette I ever bought.)
Tracks: Out of the Blue :: Staying
Together :: Only in My Dreams :: Foolish Beat :: Red Hot :: Wake Up to Love
:: Shake Your Love :: Fallen Angel :: Play the Field :: Between the Lines.
Electric Youth (1989)
By
the time EY came out, her position as a teen idol around the world was
firmly entrenched in the history of pop. An inspirational anthem, she wrote
in the album notes: 'Electric Youth - In the '60s, young people were
fighting to be heard. They were looking for peace and they wanted to change
the world. Today, children are still struggling to voice their opinions. The
song "Electric Youth" is about treating young people like people and helping
to develop their ideas and creativity'. Contains her greatest hit, Lost
In Your Eyes
Tracks: Who Loves Ya Baby? ::
Lost in Your Eyes :: Love in Disguise :: Helplessly in Love :: Silence
Speaks (A Thousand Words) :: Should've Been the One :: Electric Youth :: No
More Rhyme :: Over the Wall :: We Could Be Together :: Shades of the Past
Anything Is Possible (1990)
The first half is comprised of dance tracks (my favorite is the first track
Another Brick Falls) and the second half some of the most intense
ballads- Sure, One Hand, One Heart and the truly epical This
So-called Miracle. In the album notes, she writes: "Throughout this
album, there is an ongoing theme. This theme is about being positive,
standing up for yourself and others, reaching for the brass ring, and
getting what you feel you deserve out of life.....anyone can beat the odds
if they have the will, strength, and persistence to do so....."
Tracks: Another Brick Falls ::
Anything is Possible :: Reverse Psychology :: One Step Ahead :: Stand Your
Ground :: Deep Down :: It Must've Been My Boy :: Lead Them Home My Dreams ::
Mood Swings :: One Hand, One Heart :: Sure :: Negative Energy :: Mood Swings
:: Try :: In His Mind :: Where Have You Been? :: This So-Called Miracle
Body Mind Soul (1993)
A sensous and grown-up Debbie! The tracks are mostly dance-pop oriented,
funky, with an R&B flavor. My favourites include the tongue-in-cheek
Shock Your Mama, How Can This Be, Little Birdie and Goodbye
(the perfect ballad for break-ups and farewells). The video of the first
single, Losin' Myself created quite a stir in those days.
Tracks: Love or Money :: Do You
Have it in Your Heart? :: Free Me :: Shock Your Mama :: Losin' Myself :: How
Can This Be? :: When I Say No :: Little Birdie :: Kisses 4 One :: Tear Down
These Walls :: Goodbye
Think With Your Heart (1995)
Different from her previous albums, the songs here have a theatrical/musical
feel, with accompaniment of the London Session Orchestra. Calling it her
most honest album, it was produced entirely by herself. My favourite track
is Didn't Have The Heart. You Don't Have To See and Two
Young Kids grows on you and Think With Your Heart is perfect for
a Disney soundtrack. She also covers a Carole King classic, Will You Love
Tomorrow.
Tracks: For Better or Worse ::
Didn't Have the Heart :: Will You Love Me Tomorrow? :: Dancin' in My Mind ::
Dontcha Want Me Now? :: Can't Do it Alone :: Think With Your Heart :: Too
Fancy :: You Don't Have to See :: Two Young Kids :: Interlude/Tony's
Rehearsal :: Let's Run Away
Deborah (1997)
This album was released on her own recording label, Espiritu Records. It has
a mixture of slow and mid-tempo songs with an earthy feel. Only Words
was released as the first single from it. My favorite songs here are
Naturally, Nobody's You, Where I Wanna Be, Cry Tonight, Ode To A Would Be
Lover...heck, the whole album! I've listenend to it for like a thousand
times.
Tracks: Prelude :: Ode To A Would
Be Lover :: Moonchild :: Only Words :: Naturally :: Nobody's You :: Cry
Tonight :: Where I Wanna Be :: Butterflies Are Free :: Give Me Your Love ::
Just Wasn't Love :: I Can't :: People :: Don't Rain On My Parade :: I Will
Let You Go
M.Y.O.B. (2001)
Deborah returns with an eclectic mix that includes dance-pop oriented
numbers, a couple of new sounds, a remake and her vintage ballads. The title
track M.Y.O.B., What You Want, Your Secret and What Part of
No are her take on today's typical dance pop sounds. The remake is a
duet of Knock Three Times with Tony Orlando. But Wishing You Were
Here and The One are what keeps me firmly in the palm of her
hand...
Tracks: M.Y.O.B. :: Your
Secret :: What You Want :: Down That Road :: The One :: Wishing You Were
Here :: What Part of No :: In Blue :: Jaded :: Knock Three Times
Colored Lights (2003)
