There are very, very few people who have been in the Internet business as long as I have - and I've seen it all...

I've seen good, hardworking people struggle and come up frustrated and empty handed. I've seen others achieve spectacular success, success beyond most people's wildest imaginings.

What makes the difference? After years of studying this question, I believe I've come up with the answer. An answer that could both shock and excite you once you grasp its full significance.

Who is this guy and how can he be so confident?

LeBlond, Gerard LeBlond is my name. I staked my claim on the Internet in 1993. That was long before most people had even heard of it, let alone had any clue about what a fantastic cash machine it would turn into.

In 1994, I asked Marc Andreessen, the developer of the web broswer which kicked the Internet revolution into high gear, if he would join me at an event I was sponsoring in San Francisco. It was the FIRST conference ever held that focused exclusively on money making opportunities on the World Wide Web. On three hours of sleep, fortified by a Starbucks coffee with two shots of expresso in it, Marc drove his messy old Mustang 45 miles in the pouring rain to make sure he didn't miss it.

I wrote one of the first books on Internet entrepreneurship and the first one published in Japan. NEC, one of the biggest high tech companies in the world, has been a client ever since. In 1994, I wrote the first article on e-mail marketing to appear in a recognized marketing journal and Hotwired credits me with being one of the people responsible for the development and popularization of the banner ad.

But quite frankly, none of this means squat

I was in a lot of different businesses before I discovered the Internet. And I can tell you, from my own personal experience, that there is no business that is more fun and that offers such personal freedom. The fact is most business owners are owned by their businesses - and there's nothing fun about that. But the Internet, more than any business I know, offers the opportunity to make maximum money with minimum hassle.

But the Internet business is not all roses. In fact, in some ways, it's the hardest business of all.

Why?

The business changes like lightening. People trying to play with yesterday's playbook often get trampled. That's not hype. That't reality.

The good news is that if you can keep up, you can leave bigger, better funded, even more experienced business competitors in the dust. You can find yourself stuffing your pockets with cash before they even know an opportunity exists. I know because I've been there and done it. More than once. And I've watched others do it, first hand. Not from reading books or magazine articles.

Here's how...

If there is any single skill that is absolutely necessary for Internet success, it's the ability to

Develop super-human Internet marketing "radar"

I laugh as I watch all the "dotcom" boneheads go down in flames. For a while there, it looked like they had it all: money, media attention, even glamour. But I knew it couldn't last.

In fact, in December of 1999, I published the first warning that Internet stock mania was virtually over and I warned all my clients to stop playing around with Internet shares. I was a few months early, but my timing was about as perfect as stock timing gets. I know several smart players - who should have known better - who stayed too long at the party and had instant losses in the six figures.

What does this have to do with developing super-human Internet marketing "radar" Just this. I knew those companies were headed for a fall because they didn't have it. No amount of money, no amount of press, no amount of hype can overcome the absence of that one essential skill. And they just didn't have it.

But some people do. And

This is one of the great secrets of the business

Typically, the people who are doing the best in this business - the ones who are living the dream of maximum money with minimum hassle - are doing it quietly. Would you believe that as the US stock market is crashing many of my Internet colleagues are having their best years ever? It's true. I know that I am and I can get a certified letter from my accountant if you'd like proof.

In fact, I have two clients - brand new to the business - who started their Internet businesses in the jaws of the stock market crash and they're doing great.

One is a young man named Yanik Silver of Bethesda, Maryland. A year ago, he barely knew what the Internet was. Today, he has one web site - his first effort by the way - that is generating $12,000 for him each and every month like clockwork. A thoroughly part time effort for him by the way. What is he doing with his free time? Taking what he learned from his first Internet project and creating new even more lucrative ones. $12,000 a month here, $12,000 a month there eventually adds up to some real money!

Another client, Jackie Lange of Houston, Texas took a grand total of three ideas - two from a colleague and one from me - and QUADRUPLED the net of her already successful real estate business in less than six months...all without adding a single employee or increasing her ad budget. In fact, she says things run more smoothly now that ever!

The Internet is an ideas business

This is the one business I know where ideas can be worth more than capital, more than brand name, more than experience. Yanik and Jackie had zero Internet experience when they got started, yet in short time they were - on a dollar basis - outperforming many of the Internet gurus without IPO money or PR hype.

So where do you get good Internet ideas? First, you start by making sure you don't have any wrong ideas. Faulty, half-baked information about Internet marketing has cost entrepreneurs like yourself millions, if not billions, in wasted effort and lost opportunity in recent years.

It's not that there's no good information out there. There is. But much of the best stuff is buried under deep piles of hype and confusion. Frankly, knowing what I know, I can't imagine how in the world I'd ever get started in this business today if I didn't have a helping hand to guide me.

And here's the big danger that is sinking more Internet dreams than another other single factor:

Virtually all of the conventional wisdom about Internet marketing is dead wrong

Remember, earlier in this letter, I said I'd have some information for you that could both shock and excite you. Well, it's pretty shocking when one of the industry's longest practicing experts comes out and says that everything you've been told about Internet marketing is probably wrong.

Now let me suggest an exciting idea.

What if you, yes you, were one of the elite few who actually knew the real story? What if you could get inside the minds of the most successful players - people who've developed super-human Internet marketing "radar" - and literally take the best of their best ideas and apply them to your own projects? What do you think knowledge like that could do to your bank account?

Is such a thing even possible? And what on earth would it cost to have access to that level of information?

First, let me prove my claim that virtually all of the conventional wisdom about Internet marketing is wrong and then let me tell you a way you can have access to the good stuff for a lot less than you'd think.

Internet marketing made absurdly easy

If you are one of the few people in the modern world who has not yet read a book on or attended a seminar about or heard an Internet consultant's sales pitch, let me pull back the curtain and let you in on the basics of the business.

First of all, it's not about clever web sites. Web sites exist for one reason and one reason only: to capture e-mail addresses and that's because e-mail is the oxygen of the Internet business.

You can survive with the simplest of Internet tools, but if you don't have a firm grasp of e-mail and how to use it to market, your Internet business will be dead in the water. In contrast, with nothing more than a good e-mail list, you can literally make a fortune overnight. I've seen it done - often. Frankly, it's no big deal if you know what you're doing.

"Advanced" tools

Internet advertising tools are equally straightforward.

In no particular order there's: a) banner ads, b) search engine placement, c) selling through ezines and other people's opt in e-mail lists and d) selling through and affiliate network. That's pretty much it. The fact is, Internet marketing is easy if you just know how. But knowing the names of the tools and how they work in general is not enough. Not even close. And that's where the books, seminars, and gurus fall down. They can tell you how the tools work, but they don't tell you how to use them!

This is like giving someone a tennis racquet, teaching them how to keep score, and then sending them out on the court to play a match against a seasoned pro. Without very specific, "nuts and bolts" type how to training, you're going to get creamed. You may have already experienced this once or twice and are hoping to find a better way.

The better way is closer than most people can imagine.

The cure

Let's dream a little together...

What if you could literally step into the minds of the industry's most savvy pros and effortlessly extract the treasure chest of "know how" they've earned through their years of experience, trial and error, and cunning?

You'd know exactly what to do in any given Internet situation without wasting an effort or a dollar on wishful thinking or guesswork, wouldn't you? No consultant or techno-geek, or guru would ever be able to pull the wool over your eyes.

You'd be able to quickly sketch out a plan for any promotion, complete with all the necessary tools, what they should cost, and precisely how to use them. Within a day or so of coming up with an idea, you'd be set up to test it, inexpensively, to see if it had real promise.

Then, when you found a winner, you'd know exactly what to do in a crystal clear, step-by-step, "paint by numbers" way to roll your idea out so that is produces $1,000, $10,000, even $100,000 per month for you just like your own little private oil well. Guess what?

This is not a dream...

And you can get started making money like this with the net today.

I have clients who are already doing these numbers now. Beginners with less than a year in the business. And most of them are modest enough to admit they are not geniuses. Heck, I'm no genius either and I'm not sure if I've ever met one.

But I have met people know how to seize an opportunity when it's presented to them. These same people know that cold, hard facts and hard core "know how" is the source of wealth, not positive thinking, wishful thinking, or even thinking out of the box.

The last time I felt I had something important enough to say to write a letter like this was back in 1994 when I invited thousands of people to learn about the World Wide Web directly from Marc Andreessen, the guy who, more than any other single person, was responsible for transforming the Internet into a multi-multi-billion dollar marketplace. Only a lucky few had the insight to see that it was worth an investment of their time.

It's 2001 and I invite you to join me on the next wave of opportunity. The really big one.

Seven years ago, we were struggling to get people interested in the Internet. The market wasn't just small. It was non-existent. What's happened since that historic meeting has gone beyond the wild imagination of even the most optimistic of the original pioneers.

Now - more than ever - is the time to join in the game

Every time I read about another Internet company going belly up, I chuckle. I'm not sadistic or anything like that. It's just that I like to hear the sound of that cash register ring.

Why am I smiling? Here's why: The weak players - the majority - are leaving the Internet business.

Now that the thrill is fading, the consultants, the "know it alls" and other assorted "hot shots" are heading back to waiting tables, selling real estate, or washing cars or whatever it is they're qualified to do.

And guess what they're leaving behind for me and my friends and colleagues?

A huge marketplace that is only just now beginning to show its potential. You see, the Internet and the millions of buyers who use it every day are not going anywhere. The Internet is going to get bigger and become even more important and more central to people's lives than it is today. Ironically, it's just at this moment that "the crowd" is throwing up it hands and giving up.

Imagine: the banks, brokerage houses, day traders, television news shows, magazines and seminar gurus have spent the last seven years opening up a huge vein of pure gold. And now, because they don't know enough about shovels and picks to dig it out, they're giving up and abandoning the mine! This is exactly what's going on today and it offers you an opportunity that, in my opinion, dwarfs the original Internet explosion.

Your personal key to this kingdom

Like you may be, I was frustrated with the level of Internet marketing education available to the public. I have clients, relatives, and friends who are trying to learn this business, and I frankly don't have the time to take each one by the hand and teach them how it really works.

I decided to do something about it so I made a short list of my favorite Internet players.

First, I wanted people who were "dollars and cents" successful selling real products and services not just Internet "how to" material. That eliminated a lot of candidates right away.

Second, I wanted people who started with no special financial advantages. Sure it's easy to look smart (for a while at least) when you start with millions of dollars of investors' money. No, I wanted guys who had started from scratch with next to nothing and built their fortunes by plowing their profits back in their businesses.

Third, I wanted people who were especially skilled in one of the major Internet marketing tools. The Internet has gotten more sophisticated and the days are gone when any one guy could know it all.

Fourth, I wanted people who would be willing to talk frankly. Here's a flash bulletin: There are a lot of people who are very good at making money who would normally never dream of sitting down with you and explain how they are doing it - for all the obvious reasons.

Fifth, I wanted people who had not been spoiled by the seminar circuit. The seminar circuit is very seductive. You can make a lot of money, and many people do, repeating the same tired old advice to beginners. It is very tempting to the people who are caught up in that game to "coast" and fall out of sync with the real market.

Here's what I came up with. My guess is you probably may never have heard of any of these people:

  1. Bob Gatchel - A very famous (you'd recognize the name), but clueless celebrity entrepreneur gave Bob his e-mail list to see what he could do with it. The celebrity had barely made a dime off it. In one 24 hour period, Bob took that list and made it sing to the tune of over $100,000 in sales. He's going to tell you what to do with e-mail lists once you get them and, more importantly, how to build your own from scratch even if you barely have two dimes to rub together. And a lot more.

  2. Yanik Silver - Still unspoiled. The whole Internet world is too new to him for him to develop a swelled head, but boy can he build an affiliate sales network fast. I've got books in my library on this subject and constantly review all the industry trades and his common sense techniques are so far ahead of the "smoke and mirrors" that most people get caught up in, it's breathtaking. If I had to build an affiliate network and my life depended on the results, there is only one person I'd need to call. Get to him now before the rest of the world discovers him.

  3. Scott Covert - "Covert" means secret or hidden and that's exactly what Scott is. The secret weapon of the banner ad world. I pity the poor fools who try to use banner ad advertising without being privy to his brilliant techniques and strategies. Scott runs campaigns that regularly beat industry average click rates by 500%, 1000% and more. He's also about as savvy as they get when it comes to converting clicks to sales - and dollars. As banner ads get cheaper and cheaper people with Scott's know how are going to clean up.

  4. Ola Edvardsson - On the Interent, some people sell ads. Others sell products. Recently, there's been a boom in selling clicks. Ola is playing in the fourth market, one very few people even know exists and until now, no real player in it has ever talked about publicly. If you've got a knack for research and buying low and selling high, all you need is a computer, an Internet connection, and a telephone to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars giving away free stuff. You heard me right. The business is based on giving things away. Ola is also an internationally recognized authority on affiliate marketing.

  5. Clay Cotton - Clay was a rock and roll piano player in San Francisco in the 60s and played with some of the most famous musicians of the era including legends like Jimi Hendrix. Like a lot of young men having a good time, he didn't give much thought to the future. But the future came anyway, as it always does, and making the transition from rock and roller to businessman was not easy. But two things changed his life, direct marketing and the Internet. Clay discovered an amazingly simple formula for using search engines to drive traffic to his web sites (it has nothing to do with technical tricks) and now he makes money like a rock star and works a lot few hours. Two or so hours a week puts him comfortably in the six figures. Now for the first time, he explains his system publicly.

  6. Bettina Vitell - So you want to do business on the Internet, eh? To succeed, you need to make the acquaintance of a webmaster (or webmistress as the case may be.) She better be reliable and she better know what she's doing or your business will be sunk before it starts. An award winning photographer and author and founder of a successful New York area restaurant, Bettina, who studies direct marketing in her spare time, brings more to this important function than your average twenty-something, "know it all" computer geek. With over five years of pro Internet experience under her belt, she's a veteran in a world of pretenders.   7. A surprise guest - This guy has a remarkable reputation for consistently being in the right place at the right time with the right stuff. Fortunately, he also has a real passion for teaching and mentoring and cuts to the chase about what it takes to be successful on the Internet. His list of clients reads like a "Who's Who" not only in the Internet business, but in the traditional direct marketing world as well. If you're in the know, you'd recognize his name instantly. If not, don't even think about investing in the Internet without hearing what he as to say.
