| Travel within the United States |

| The US has an enormous amount to see for travellers, something that all Americans know well, as most rarely vacation beyond our borders. However, most International Travellers often get stuck in the same route which generally means seeing LA and NY. There is more. Anyway, this is an ongoing page that I'm setting up to help vagabonds and backpackers exploring the US. |

1. craigslist.org. It's the classifieds, trading post, whatever, free and online. The best thing on it for backpackers is the rideshare section. Here you can find people driving across the US and hook up with them for a ride in exchange for helping with the fuel for the trip. To compare, the cheapest public transport I found between LA and SF was $80 and meant changing buses twice. I got a ride of craigslist in less than a day, it cost $20, and was a nice ride with cool people. Short and longterm housing can also be found on the site.

2. Afternoon baseball.Yes, the World Series is not an accurate name (have you ever noticed that two of the biggest problems people have with American Sports are semantics? Football and the World Series), and baseball seems like a dull sport, even to cricket fans. But, if you're in the US for the summer and it's warm out, try to catch a game. It is the national pasttime. Drinking helps, I won't lie, and day games are better than night ones. Go for the cheap seats, get food and drink (buy as much beer as you can each trip), and yell when everyone else does. Personally, I'd say see the Red Sox, as Fenway is a great place to watch a game but there are other nice parks out there, SF, Baltimore, Arizona, Chicago (Cubs not White Sox), to name a few.

3. Drinking Age. Most people complain about the US drinking age at 21, Americans too. Most Americans get fake ids long before their 21st. If you're under 21 and in the US and don't have an id, the best spot is probably a college or university (same thing). Especially one with frats. Gate crash a party, most Americans love an accent so you may end up being the novelty of the evening. Beyond that, the last resort of many is to shoulder tap someone going into the liquor store and ask them to pick you up something.

4. Mac'n'Cheese. Yes, we have 2 minute noodles like everywhere else but you can also get cheap mac'n'cheese in the states which makes for a bit of a fuller meal on the cheap. Mac'n'cheese can get as cheap as $0.20 a box.
