Rambling without Direction
The fall of 2000 was my first time long term backpacking, I had four and a half months to ramble before heading to the Alps to find work and spend the season skiing.  And without a clear direction and often choosing my path by the flip of a coin, I wandered out of Europe and into the Desert.

I originally planned to leave sometime during the summer to begin my indefinite travel in Europe.  My plan was essentially to see many of the things I'd visited during my semester abroad, but spend more time in each place this time around.  I ended up finding a courier service which promised me a free ticket to Europe, if I served as a courier for them.  I packed my bag, and then waited for the phone call, telling me that I had a flight and where it was to.  The phone never rang.  Eventually, I bit the bullet and got a one way ticket to France.  I'd planned for this to be my first stop as I wanted to store my ski gear with friends in Aix-en-Provence.
