| I decided to spend the winter of 2000/2001 in the French Alps and find work in some form or another, to help support myself. After spending some weeks looking for a place to a room and work in both Val d'Isere and Tignes, I ended up in the former. What can I say about the Alps? It turns out that I went during the worst season they had in 25 years. Of course, when one compares the worst season in 25 years to skiing in New England, well, there is no comparison. I spent my days skiing, learning how to snowboard and telemark, and working on the mountain as a dishwasher and bus boy. I spent my nights often drinking and carousing with my friends. During this time, I started to seriously experiment with my facial hair, the result of which I was nominated for the overall W.O.F.T.A.M. at the season's end. Had I not shaved the week before the award's ceremony, I think I might have had a chance. | ||||||||||||
| Tignes: Upon arriving to the Alps, I stayed for the first several weeks in the youth hostel in Tignes, by the Dam. There I met: Stiff, Richard, Sonja, Charles, Ingrid, Roger, and Dan. | ||||||||||||
| Bob the Au Pair: This job lasted roughly a week. |

| Val at Night: Val is a bit of a loony place, in that the two quietest nights each week were Friday and Saturday. I'm fairly sure most of us developed varying degrees of alcohol problems by seasons end. | ||||||||||||
| Bob, sur le Piste: I spent the majority of the season as a Plongeur (dishwasher) and bus boy on one of the restaurants on the mountain. I do believe that this may have been the best job I've ever had, if you take into account my responsibility (none), two bosses with seemingly infinite patience, and location (on a mountain peak in the middle of the French Alps). The fact that I could ski home from work didn't hurt either. I spent most of the season in the dish room with Oreche and Simon, and all the other loons from Biaritz. Bridgette and Nicolas, merci pour la saison. | ||||||||||||

| Return to Prague: About mid way through the season, I took a two week vacation to Prague, for a change of pace. | ||||||||||||
