467th AAA AW Battalion (SP)

Letter of Commendation

H E A D Q U A R T E R S
234th ENGINEER COMBAT BATTALION
APO 230, U. S. Army

13 September 1944

SUBJECT: Commendation.

TO: Captain CARY G. DUNN, 467th AAA Bn

Thru: Commanding General, XIX Corps.

1. During the period 6 September 1944 to 13 September 1944, this Battalion with attached bridging units was assigned the mission of closely following the 2nd Armored Division to open two M.S.R.'s from the vicinity of St. Amand to Vise. Battery D, 467th AAA, commanded by Capt. DUNN, was attached to provide air and ground security.

2. The performance of Capt. DUNN and his unit was outstanding during the entire period. At times this Battalion preceded the 2nd Armored Division with only the Cavalry screen in front and had several contacts with enemy pockets. Capt. DUNN'S unit was always on the alert and very prompt in establishing outpost security at halts and in bivouac.

3. It is desired to commend most highly Capt. DUNN and his unit for an outstanding performance which materially assisted this unit in carrying out its mission.

                    /s/Philip C. Satterthwaite

HEADQUARTERS, 12th AAA GROUP, APO 270, U. S. Army, 1 October 1944.

TO: Commanding Officer, 467th AAA AW Bn, APO 230, U. S. Army.

1. This commendation is richly merited by Battery "D" and Captain Dunn. Their combat-mindedness is highly laudatory and appreciated by the undersigned. Though ground missions are not the type of combat missions our units have been trained for, it is refreshing to find some of our AAA units cognizant of the fact that this is Total War and requires the support of every weapon, whether in it's normal role or otherwise. My close association with Captain Dunn and Battery "D" during the recent march of an infantry division from France into Belguim assured me of that Battery's combat-mindedness.

2. It gives me considerable pleasure, therefore, to transmit this appreciation of work well done to Captain Dunn and to all the members of Battery "D".
