| Chapter 23 Monica was still very shaken up after he run in with Alan. She was spending the morning walking through the park and thinking about what to do about him. She knew was avoiding him by making sure that she worked a different shift the he did and hiding behind the restraining order. She knew that sooner or later that was all going to have to end and she was to face Alan. Monica was thinking about what she going to say to him when that day came as walked through the park. She wasn�t really watching where she was going and ran into a man that was busy looking around him this boyish grin on his face. �I�m sorry,� Monica said smiling at the man. �It is my fault. I wasn�t watching where I was going. Are you hurt?� Adam Chandler asked Monica. He was dressed as his brother this morning and looked just as sappy as Stuart would on a day like this. �No, I am fine. Thank you,� Monica said and she started to walk. Adam walked after her and asked, �Do you mind if I walk with you? It is such a lovely day and it would be a shame for a lovely woman like yourself to walk alone.� Monica bushed at this. It had been a long time since someone called her lovely. She looked at the man for a moment and judging him to be safe. She said, �I was just about to head for Kelly�s for light lunch. Would you like to join me?� �I would love to,� Adam said offering Monica his arm. �I am Stuart Chandler.� �Monica Quartermaine,� Monica said and they walked towards Kelly�s together. ***************************** Mikkos decided that if he couldn�t get Luke to agree to protection. He would try working on Lucky for a while. Mikkos took Lucky to the �No Name� for lunch. �What do want?� Mikkos asked his grandson as they looked over the menus. Lucky looked up at his grandfather with a knowing smile on his face and said, �I was going to ask you that very question.� Mikkos put down his menu and looked at Lucky and said, �You talked to your father.� �Yeah, we talked. He told me about visit last night and the answer is no. I don�t need any protection,� Lucky said grinning. �You need it. The question the question is are you take it,� Mikkos said flatly. He wished that Luke and Lucky were like the others. If there was a danger they took the protection without question. No, not Lucky and Luke they could take care of themselves. God forbid they ask for help! Lucky smiled at Mikkos and said, �I love you. I know you worry about me and gave you good reason a while ago. I just don�t need someone following me everywhere I go. I grew up taking of myself. Dad taught me how to survive this world on my own. I can get out of just about anything that comes at me. So, don�t worry about me too much. I�m not kid.� Mikkos sighed and said, �Lucky, I know you are smart. You can take on just about anything that comes at you but I know this family. I know them better then anyone. They aren�t to be taken lightly.� �Don�t I know that,� Lucky laughed. �Grandpa, you forget my parents been fighting with this family for years. If I can live through Helena, don�t you think I can deal with the others?� Mikkos nodded his head and said, �Yes, I do. I just want to make sure nothing happens to you. It isn�t that your prince. It is because care about you and the others.� �I know but don�t worry about me. I�ll be ok,� Lucky said smiling and he went back looking over the menu. ******************************* Luke decided to go to Spoon Island to check up on these threats with someone he trusted. Luke figured that the best time to do it is when Mikkos was with Lucky. Luke walked into Stefan�s office and found Stefan sitting behind his desk working away on hug stack of paper work. �Is this what I am avoiding?� Luke asked laughing at the sight of Stefan. �Yeah it is. You want to be the prince?� Stefan asked jokingly. �No,� Luke said dropping into the chair across from Stefan�s desk and propped his feet up on it. �So, you know anything about these so called threats?� Stefan picked up a letter and tossed it at Luke. �It isn�t a joke,� Stefan said. Luke looked the letter over and noticed that the threat wasn�t directed at anyone but Lucky. �So, Cowboy�s the target,� Luke said. �Yeah, he is,� Stefan said. Luke thought about this and asked, �Stefan, have you ever known this family to sending a warning?� Stefan thought about this and said, �No. Now that you mention it.� �Ok, so if it isn�t this family then what is going on?� Luke asked Stefan. �I don�t know. I don�t think father is playing games. He is really worried about Lucky. Now this is either a joke, Edward getting back at Grandfather or someone else is trying to blame the family.� �Yeah, the trouble is which,� Luke said thinking about all of this. �What we do?� Stefan asked. �You tell Victor to look at other directions. I�ll be doing the same thing and if this is Edwards kind of joke. I�ll break the guys legs,� Luke said flatly as he got up and started out the door. �I�ll help,� Stefan said and he picked up the phone to call Victor to tell him what they just talked about. ****************************** Monica and Adam were having lunch at Kelly�s laughing and really enjoying themselves when Robert and Jason showed up. �Mom,� Jason said surprised to see his mother out. �How you are doing?� Jason asked kissing Monica and looking at Adam with suspicious look on his face. �I�m fine. Hi, Robert,� Monica said smiling at the man behind her son. �Hi,� Robert said looking at Adam with same look as Jason. Monica noticed the looks. She looked at the two men and said, �Jason. Robert! This is Stuart Chandler. He is here in family business. We kind ran into each other at the park.� �Hi,� Jason said holding out his hand to Adam. �Hello,� Adam said smiling brightly. �Chandler?� Robert said looking at Adam with a wondering look on his face. �Don�t you have a brother named Adam.� �Yes, I do. Why do you ask?� Adam asked Robert. �I heard a lot about him and none of it was good,� Robert said. �See you Monica,� Robert said and he went to pick up everyone�s orders for the lunch meeting that they were having at the club in about ten minutes. �Mom, after this meeting. How about you go with me take the twins for their hair cut. I might need a little back up,� Jason said smiling. �Sure, I�ll meet you at the penthouse about two?� Monica asked. �It is a date,� Jason said and he looked at Adam. �Nice to meet you.� �Yeah, nice to meet you,� Adam said shaking Jason�s hand. Jason and Robert left the diner. Both men gave Adam a closer look out side the door. Jason looked at Robert and asked, �What was that about Adam?� �A little detail that I know about Mikkos and Victor. They did dealings with a man name Adam Chandler. He has a twin brother named Stuart. It just got to me that Stuart runs into your mother when a friend of Mikkos is in town to take down your family.� Robert said to Jason. �You think that is the friend?� Jason asked turning around to look at the diner. �It could be. Now, the guest is are you willing to let her get used to get even with your father?� Robert asked Jason. Jason didn�t say anything. He did think about this as he walked towards the club helping Robert carry their order. ************************************* Adam walked into his hotel about an hour later. Skye looked at him and asked, �How did it go?� �It went ok with Monica but I don�t know about Robert. Something about the guy I don�t like,� Adam said. He had been thinking about Robert�s reaction to him from the moment the guy left the table. Something about Robert bothered Adam but he couldn�t put his finger on it. �Scorpio? I heard he used to be the commissioner in this town,� Skye said. �That could be it. He just could have acted like a cop,� Adam said figuring his daughter was right and that Robert would be no trouble as long as he played it cool. �How things going with Alan?� Adam asked as he sat down in the chair. �He is working now. We will meet later. I was thinking about talking him into changing his life. He isn�t happy at work and ELQ does own a big Pharisaical Company. Maybe I can get him into wanting to do that,� Skye said grinning. �Edward wouldn�t allow it. What I heard about this father and son relationship there isn�t much trust on either side,� Adam said. �I know. I�m hoping that I can get father into wanting more out of life,� Skye said grinning. �Not bad idea. We could use him into opening the door of our take over,� Adam said glad to know that his daughter was thinking like a Chandler. �Figured you like it,� Skye said smiling with this calculating look on her face. �Oh, I do. I do,� Adam said heading into his bedroom to change. He could only take dressing like his brother for a short time before the outfit and the attitude started getting to him. *********************************** Luke was thinking about the treat that Stefan showed him when Robert walked into the office carrying their order from Kelly�s. �You took your sweet time,� Luke said clearing a spot on the desk. �Next time you go for the food,� Robert snapped dropping the bags on to the desk. �I will,� Luke said digging in the bag. �How is Ruby?� �Didn�t see her. She could be out to lunch with her lover,� Robert said wondering why Ruby didn�t get it over with and decided to either marry or dump Mikkos. �Nope, the old man is having lunch with the Cowboy. He is trying to talk Lucky into putting up with a bodyguard,� Luke said finding his bowl of chili and dropping into his chair to eat it. Jason laughed as he grabbed a beer from the small fridge that sat on the floor near the door. �I bet he isn�t going to be able to do it,� Jason said. �What we betting on?� Sonny asked as he walked into the office and placed little Anastasia on the desk. �Mikkos talking Lucky into a bodyguard,� Robert said playing with the child. �So, you heard about the treat,� Sonny said taking a beer from Jason. �What threat?� Robert asked. �The one that Victor got in the mail yesterday. It was aimed at Lucky but Victor and Mikkos think it might be aimed at all of us. Carly took her bodyguard into work with her,� Jason said grabbing two sandwiches from the bag and heading one to Sonny. �You two knew about this and you didn�t tell me?� Luke said sounding hurt that he was out of the loop. �Hey, I got a call last night from Mikkos. He said he was going to tell you next. Besides, I already know what you were going to say,� Sonny said pulling up a chair and sitting down. �I could have said yes,� Luke said. �Did you?� Jason asked. �No, but you could have given me the chance,� Luke said grinning. The other three just looked at him shaking their heads. Everyone sat down in chairs and at. �So, does Mikkos know who is threatening the family this time?� Robert asked. �He thinks it is one of the others,� Sonny said. �He�s wrong,� Luke said putting his feet on the desk. Sonny knocked them off and pointed to his daughter. Luke just smiled at Sonny but he did keep his feet down. �Who then?� Jason asked in between bites. �I don�t know but I know it isn�t a Cassadine. They don�t warn anyone before attacking. They just strike,� Luke said. �He�s right,� Robert said. Cassadines didn�t change their MO. They went by a set pattern. They just acted. �Ok, if it isn�t them then who?� Sonny asked. �Well, Edwards comes to mind,� Luke said looking at Jason. �Why would he threaten Lucky?� Jason asked. �Maybe he wants to say that it is to dangers for Emily to be living to close to Lucky,� Luke said. �That could be it,� Robert said taking a sip of his beer. Jason thought about this and said, �I could go visit grandmother and see what the old man is up to.� �Do that and while you are at it. See if Alan knows about this threat. He could have sent it as well,� Luke said. �What if it isn�t them? Then who could it be?� Robert asked. �Your guess as good as mine. You know there are a lot of people out there that would love to get rich real fast. My kid is away to get to the old man,� Luke said. He always knew there was a threat and that is why he always kept a close eye on Lucky. He knew where the kid most hours of the day. It bothered him when he didn�t know where Lucky was to many things could happen. �You piss off anyone lately?� Sonny asked Luke. �Not that I remember!� Luke said grinning. �Well, I say until you figure out what is going on. You keep Lucky close,� Robert said. �Got that handled. Johnny is going to tail Lucky for awhile. I might not like the men that Mikkos hire as guards but I�m not dumb,� Luke said with a cocky grin on his face. �How�s Monica?� Luke asked as digging in the sack for his sandwich. �She�s ok,� Jason said still thinking about the conversation he had with Robert. �What�s wrong?� Sonny asked leaning forward and putting the pacifier back in his daughter�s mouth. �I don�t know. I guess I�m having second thoughts about double crossing grandfather. I know what my father did was wrong but taking ELQ from grandfather wouldn�t just hurt but grandmother as well,� Jason said. Luke leaned back in the chair and said, �You should have just beat the carp out of him and had it over with.� �I agree,� Sonny said. �You two are no help,� Robert said. He knew where they were coming from. Luke and Sonny both watched their mothers get beat up by their husbands. It was a site that changed but Luke and Sonny forever. �Jason, I�m not siding with Alan on this. I think he went to far by hurting Monica like that but I think she was right when she said let her handle it.� �I know. I just want to make sure it doesn�t happen again,� Jason said feeling very frustrated. �What brought this on anyway?� Luke asked Jason. �Ah, saw mom talking to a guy at Kelly�s before we came here. Robert told me that Mikkos has a friend by the name of Adam Chandler. This guy was his brother Stuart. They so happen are twin brothers. You add the fact that Mikkos has a friend in town that is planning on taking down my family and I just couldn�t help but put two and two together,� Jason said. �You think he would use Monica to get to the old man?� Luke asked. �Adam?� Robert said laughing. �That bad?� Sonny asked. �Lets just say that Adam and Mikkos are friends for a reason,� Robert said. Luke thought about this and said, �Look Jason I�m not going to tell you what to do with your family that is your business. What I will tell you is that you will have to look yourself in the mirror anything you do. You better decide if you can live with watching Edward going down because you were right. Hurting Edward will in the end hurt Lila. Now I might not like that old man but Lila�s a living angel. She doesn�t need any more heartache,� Luke said to Jason.
