| Chapter 14 Monica and Alan had been trying all day to get past things. It wasn�t working. It got so bad that Monica had stormed out of the house just as Emily and AJ were going at it. She climbed into her car and sped away. She drove around town for long time thinking about her and Alan�s marriage. She knew it was over. She knew it a long time ago. It wasn�t until today that she willing to admit. Monica ended up at the Port Charles Hotel just after sun down. She sat the bar and started to drink. She never liked drinking but at this moment. She really didn�t feel like feeling anything at this moment. As she worked on getting drunk, a man walked over beside her and sat down. �That�s not going to help,� Robert said watching Monica pour the liquor down her throat. �At least I won�t feel anything,� Monica said finishing her drink and asking for another one. Robert ordered a drink and then looked at Monica. �Why the urge to a drowned yourself?� Robert asked. �I just realized that is over. I no longer what to fight with Alan,� Monica said looking at Robert with this cold and cynical look on her face. �I understand,� Robert said nodded his head sadly. Monica looked at him and then asked, �What happened with Anna and you?� Robert laughed, �You must not have read the paper today.� And he went on to tell her about being a father. Monica looked at Robert and said, �I�m sorry.� �Don�t be. I had feeling that this wasn�t going to last. I don�t know why I tried,� Robert said sadly and the pair sat there drinking. In fact, they sat there for about two hours and the pair was really drunk. Robert got Monica a room and was going to help her to it before calling himself a cab. They walked to Monica�s room and at the door. Monica looked at Robert with this very lost and hungry look on her face. What posed her to kiss him? She didn�t know but when she did it felt right, at least at the very moment. Robert didn�t fight her. He went a long with it. Robert picked Monica up stepped into the room. Monica was the one that closed the door behind them. ********************************************** The next morning, Monica woke up with her head resting Robert�s chest. It took her a moment to remember what happened and when she did. She sat up suddenly and looked around the room trying to figure out what to do. Robert woke up with her moving around. Robert rolled his side and looked at Monica with a smile on his face. �Have some regrets?� he asked her. �Ah, this? Um! I didn�t plan this,� Monica said pulling the sheet up to cover her body. �I didn�t either and I know it meant nothing. So, I�m not going to say anything. If anyone asks, I crashed at Mac�s place,� Robert said and he got out of bed pulling one of the covers with him. Monica was relieved to hear this and she sat there as Robert grabbed his cloths and headed into the bathroom. Monica skipped the shower and left the room. She felt it would easier then facing Robert again. ******************************************* Monica went home. She walked into the house and saw Emily heading towards the dinning room. �Morning,� Monica said trying hard not to show she was guilty of anything. Emily didn�t turn around. She muttered her greeting to her mother. Monica was worried that Emily upset with her. So, Monica walked after Emily and tried to figure out what as going on. �Em?� Monica said and she touched Emily�s arm and guided the teen around. Emily had busted lip and the bottom part of her jaw was black and blue. �What happened?� Monica demanded her blood boiling over. �Nothing,� Emily said crying. Monica bent down and tried hard to calm down. She looked at Emily and said, �That isn�t nothing. Now, please honey, tell me what happened.� Emily took a deep breath fought the tears that were threatening to over take her again and told her mother what happened. Monica looked at Emily and said, �I want go up back your things and get ready to leave.� �Where am I go?� Emily asked in a weak voice. �We are leaving,� Monica said and she called out. �Reggie?� Reginald came into room and said, �Yes.� �Help Emily pack a few things and get my me a bag as well,� Monica ordered. �Yes,� Reginald said and he took Emily loving by the arm and guided her away. Monica stood there fuming. In a few moments, Alan, Edward and AJ walked in the room. Alan saw Monica and stared in on her. �Where you been?� Alan demanded. Monica pointed a finger at Alan and said in voice that was filled with venom, �I wouldn�t think about it buddy!� She then walked to AJ and got right in his face. �I over looked your drinking. I over looked you almost killing your brother. Hell, I over looked you trying destroy this family but I�ll damned I will over look you hitting Emily. You ever lay a finger on her again and I�ll press charges. I�ll thrown in jail so fast it will make your head spin!� Alan looked at AJ and then his wife with puzzled look on his face. �What are you talking about?� �What am I talking about. Alan, I left to get my act together. I figured you could at least watch over Emily for one night. You knew she was having trouble with this but you didn�t bother to check in on her. In fact, I blame you just as I blame him! I have had it. I�m out of here. You can take this house. You can take this family and stick!� Monica yelled and she left the room. Edward and Alan both looked at AJ with hard eyes. �What did you do?� Edward demanded. AJ tried to figure out what he was going to do about it. *********************************** Robert went home. He really didn�t want to but he was planning on grabbing a few of this things then head out. He was hoping that Anna would be gone to work by now but he was wrong. Anna greeted him as he walked into the house and started for the stairs. �Where have you been?� she demanded. �None of your business,� Robert snapped and kept on walking. �Damn it, Robert. I want to talk to you,� Anna yelled as she walked after Robert. Robert didn�t stop. He just kept on walking towards the bedroom he shared with Anna. As they he walked into the room and headed for the closet, Anna kept on talking. �Are we talk about this,� she asked him. �You had your chance. You had your twenty-one years to tell me about my son. I really don�t want to hear you talk any more. Anna, We done,� Robert said and he took off his wedding ring and placed in on the bed. He then started to pack. ******************************************* Zander spent the night thinking. He finally decided by sunrise that it was time talk to his mother. He arrived at Wyndomere and found her exactly where he expected. Alex was sitting in the back of the house with watching the sun come up. �I guess I�m like the woman who raised me. I never could go to bed until worked everything out in my head,� Zander said smiling as he walked up beside his mother. �What did you come up with?� Alex asked thinking maybe the smile on his face was good sign. �That spite everything, I�m glad Anna left me with you,� Zander said. �It wasn�t exactly that,� Alex said and she took Zander�s hand and they sat down in two chairs near by. �What happened then?� Zander asked gripping his mother�s hand tightly. Alex smiled and said, �Well, I just lost my husband and our child all in the same year. Anna came to me with you scared out of her mind. She was worried that Fasion would find out that she had children with Robert. She asked if I could take care of you. I offered both you and Robin but she refused. She thought it would safer if you weren�t together. I heard from her now and then over the next few years. It wasn�t until she reconnected with Robert that she came to the house. I think she came to take you to your father but by then. We had built a bond and you saw me as your mother. Anna couldn�t hurt me by taking you away. So, she let me adopt you legally.� �So, by all aspects you are my mother,� Zander said. �Yes, but I would understand your desire to get to know your real mother,� Alex said smiling at Zander. �Mom, don�t take this wrong but I don�t care about Aunt Anna. I want to get to know my twin and my father but not her. She could have told the truth a long time ago but she didn�t. I figure she isn�t worth the trouble,� Zander said and he hugged his mother. �She is my sister and if it wasn�t for her. I would have you,� Alex said looking at Zander with conflicting emotions. �I know and for that I�m grateful. I will also respect her for you but I will not ever call her mother. I will think of her as my mother. You are my mother. You�re the one that took care of me and loved me. I love you for it,� Zander said and kissed on the cheek. �Ok, Alex said and she hugged Zander back. ************************************ Monica didn�t know where to go. She thought about getting a hotel room but then she realized sooner or later, she would have to go to work. She looked over at Emily and saw this lost and very confused look on her daughter�s face. She knew leaving Emily alone wasn�t a good idea at this moment. So, Monica went to Jason and Carly�s. Carly was the one that opened the door that morning, �Monica? Emily!� Carly said looking one then the other. It was bruised and very hurt look on Emily�s face that compelled Carly to step aside and let the pair enter. �What happened?� Carly asked as she closed the door. Monica looked at Emily and said, �How about you go find the kids?� Emily looked down at her feet and nodded her head. Monica sighed at this and then looked over at Carly. �AJ hit her. After I found out, I walked out on all of them, and now Emily is kind of locking down on me,� Monica said sadly. �AJ?� Carly said shocked at first to hear this then her blood started to boil. �That bastard should be learning to breath underwater,� Carly cursed. Monica ignored that statement. She looked around the room then asked, �Is Jason home?� �Ah, no. He will be soon. Come on, I�ll get you both settled in our guestroom and then we can have coffee while we wait for Jason,� Carly said smiling. �I have to go the hospital soon,� Monica said realizing what time it was. �Don�t worry about it. I�ll make sure your shift is covered. Right now, you worry about Emily,� Carly said smiling. She might hate Edward, AJ and Alan but she had no hard feelings for Monica. She never hated her or disliked her in any way. They weren�t best friends but they weren�t enemies either. �Thanks,� Monica said not sure how to take Carly�s kindness. ********************************************* Jason found out what AJ did and left the penthouse. He went looking for his brother and figured after spending a few moments getting preached at by Edward. The best place to find AJ was in a bar. He found AJ at Jake�s with glass of vodka in his hand. Jason walked over his brother wrapped his arm around him and asked in a cold lethal voice. �You enjoying your drink?� AJ looked over at Jason and said, �Yeah.� �Good because after this. You and I are going to talk,� Jason said smiling. AJ didn�t smile. He just finished his drink trying hard not to shake in fear. Jason sat there waiting while AJ finished up. When they left the bar AJ looked at his bothered and asked, �You planning on killing me or just beating me up?� �Neither. I promised our mother that I wouldn�t kill you but I�ll damned that our sister has to look in your face any more. We are going back to the house and you are going to back your thinks. Make sure you take what you want to keep because you�re not coming back,� Jason said coldly. �How long do you plan on keeping me out of town?� AJ asked. �As long as you want to keep on breathing, because you came back I�ll destroy you,� Jason said and you saw no love in his eyes for his older brother. AJ didn�t utter a word as the pair drove back to the Quartermaine mansion. *************************************************** When Lucky woke up, he called Emily�s house right away. Reggie told him what had happened and that he had no idea where Monica had taken Emily. Lucky called every hotel in town but didn�t find Emily. He was sitting by the phone racking his brain trying to figure out where they could be. When his father walked into the room, �What�s wrong?� Luke asked. �AJ. He hit Emily. Monica found out and hit the roof. I called everywhere I could think of but I can�t find them,� Lucky said in frustration. �Did you think about Jason and Carly�s place?� Luke asked pointing just one floor below them. �I hit my head to hard,� Lucky muttered shaking his head at how dumb he was. �Thanks and I�ll be down stairs,� Lucky said smiling at his father as he wheeled himself towards the front door. After Lucky left, Luke went looking for his car keys. He was digging around the living room when Laura walked in. �Where is Lucky?� Laura asked. �Down stairs,� Luke said finding his keys and throwing them into the air. �What? Why?� Laura asked. She didn�t like the idea that Lucky was moving around so freely this soon from being released from the hospital. �It seems AJ slapped his sister around. Lucky is worried about Emily,� Luke said and he started for the door. �Hold it!� Laura said grabbing Luke�s arm. �Where are you going?� Laura demanded. She knew Luke. Luke liked Emily. He also hated people who hit women or children. So, this no reaction from her husband wasn�t a good thing. �Me?� Luke said with this little grin on his face. �Oh, no. You stay here. I�m not going to let you do anything that could make this worse,� Laura said wrapping her arm around him and guiding him towards the kitchen. �Angel,� Luke said in this sweet tone of voice. �Why would you think that?� �Because I know you. I know you very well and I�m not going to let you out of my sight,� Laura said and she pulled Luke towards the kitchen. ******************************************** Carly opened the door when the doorbell rang. She was shocked to see Lucky sitting there. �Is Emily here?� Lucky asked. �Come on in,� Carly said moving aside and letting Lucky into the penthouse. Emily and Monica were playing with the twins on the floor. They looked up when Lucky came into the room. Lucky took one look at Emily�s face and held out his arms to her. �Come here,� Lucky said in a loving voice. Emily got up and moved to Lucky. The moment she was in his arms. The tears came again. Lucky held her and said, �It�s ok. He isn�t going to hurt you again and this fight is over. Mikkos promised me that it is going to end.� �You sure?� Emily asked. �Yeah. He has one thing he can�t stop. I don�t know what it is yet but I�m going to find out. When I do I�ll tell you. I�m not going to let you get hurt again,� Lucky promised. Monica walked over to the two teens and she asked, �Can you believe Mikkos?� �Yes,� Lucky said smiling. �He did this for me and he will stop for me.� �I really don�t care. My life is gone,� Emily cried and she turned away from Lucky. Lucky moved closer to her and gripped her hand. �Turn around,� Lucky asked quietly. He sat there waiting for comply. When she did he said, �When I woke up and I couldn�t talk or move. I was scared out my mind. I thought about staying that way for the rest of my life. Never holding you. Never talking to anyone. I wanted to die. I started begging to die. Then I moved an inch and then I spoke. I realized that I had chance. I�m still fighting to get past this. So, if you think your life is over then it is. Em, I hope you realize that as long as you breath there is hope. Now, I know what is like watching two people you love ending a marriage. I watched it happen. I also know what lies to do a family as well. Now, it is dark now and you might think things never get better but they do. You just have to keep on fighting. Alan and Monica my never find their way back to each other but you might end up getting father back. He might finally see you as a person. AJ might get help!� �He�s right,� Monica said smiling. �Mom, I don�t know if I can do this any more. I hate walking down the street and seeing people stare at me. I just want to go away hide,� Emily cried. �Ok,� Lucky said and he picked up the phone near him and made a call. �Grandpa, I need a favor.� Lucky said after a moment of silence. Everyone sat there watching as Lucky asked Mikkos not only to turn over one of the planes to Monica and Emily but open one of the family homes in the south of France for them. When he hung up the phone he said, �It�s done. You leave when ever you want.� �Lucky, I don�t.� Monica started to say but she looked at Emily and stopped. She realized that her daughter needed a break. She needed to get out of town for awhile. So, she smiled at Lucky and said, �Thank you.� �Hey, I get to do few good things with this money,� Lucky said smiling. �I�ll miss you,� Emily said. �Hey, I can fly any time I want and I know that place hot computer. We can email each other. I just want you to take you. Don�t worry about me or this place. By the time you come back, all of this will be bad dream,� Lucky promised her. �Thanks,� Emily said and she kissed Lucky on the cheek. Monica took Emily�s hand and they went to pack. Carly walked up to Lucky and said, �You are doll.� �Monica keeps her job?� Lucky asked. �Yes. I�ll make sure of it,� Carly promised. �Good and I would happier if Jason went with them to get them settled. I think Emily might need her big brother right now,� Lucky said smiling. �We all go.
