| Chapter Eight The truth slowly comes out Luke knocked on the Quartermaines door. Reggie answered and he asked, Need to talk to Emily is she home. Yes. Mr. Spencer. Ill go get her. Reggie left Luke standing in hall. Emily walked down the stair and greeted Luke. Hi, Mr. Spencer. What can I do for you. I need to talk about Lucky. Is there someplace we can go? Where no Quartermaine can interrupt. He asked. She didnt have to ask if he found Lucky. She also knew what he wanted to know. After all this time Em decided to tell Luke the truth. (Finally) They walked around the gardens. I know what you want. Ill tell you but it must stay between us. Ok. she said. Luke nodded and waited for her to begin. Lucky was gambling and stealing to cover his losses. I even helped him take some stuff from the main house. He kept saying everything was going to be ok, but I guess it wasnt. The day of the Ward house fire, Lucky was supposed to meet his bookie and pay him off. He did not have all the money. He told me it would be all right. We were going to meet the next day and talk. He was different. I dont know what happen because Lucky never told me everything. He just said the gambling was over with and he didnt owe anyone anything. she said. (Finally a start) Why didnt he come to me. Luke asked. (Because youre a hard person to talk to sometimes) He said he could handle it himself, she said. Mr. Spencer there is one more thing. A week after the fire, Sly and I were meeting Lucky in the park to give him his schoolwork. Hed been skipping school a lot. Only attending to take some tests and that was it. The teachers said you called and set everything up. Something about a family problem. As we neared him, I could have sworn he was talking to Damon Smith. Lucky was jumpy and very moody. Sly told him he wasnt going to drop his work off anymore. That was the last time I talked to Lucky. (Well you are finally on the right track) As Luke left Em, he has a few things on his mind. One, he never talked to the school about Lucky and two, what did the Smith snake have to do with Lucky running. He headed to Sonny to find out some information. Sonny, who is the bookie for this neighborhood. Luke asked walking into Sonnys penthouse. Sam. Why? replied Sonny. Luke told him about the conversation with Emily. Sonny picked up the phone and called Jason. Jason, find Sam and ask him if he remembers doing business with Lucky Spencer. And Jason, Remind Sam what happens to people who deal with kids in my town. Hanging up and turning to Luke. I should find out soon, he said. (Not a bad idea) Sonny, Do you remember all the trouble this town had right before Damions death? Luke asked. Yes. The police never figured out who took him out. Sonny said. Lucky disappeared right before all that mess started. You dont think Luke could not finish. The thought his son killed someone. Even a snake like Damion did not make since. Luke. He couldnt. Right. Sonny asked. I hope not, but if its true, Lucky is not going to jail for that rats death. Luke said pacing the room. (You two are sure slow sometimes) Chapter 9 Back to Trouble with Secrets |
