Chapter Fifteen What now?

Lake?  Robert said in surprise.

Yes. Your son joined us just after you left town. I tried to take you both on
the night Luke and Lucky joined me but you got my men.  Instead, I decided to
bring you to me. Michael said.  You havent answered me.

All right. You win, father, but I want conditions. These have to go. Luke said
holding up his arm. And we decide on our son's lives. Not you or any one. They
mess up and we will say what punishment is needed. Agreed?

After the job is done. Then you both will have the run of the place. You cant
go too far then, but the boys will be shot anywhere near the air strips or boat
docks. Michael said coldly.

Luke and Robert were shown to their new homes. Luke. We cant kill Donnelly.
Robert said.

I dont give a damn about Donnelly. He left my family and me to rot with the
Cassadines. So, I dont owe him a thing. Lucky is not being turned over to that
man. Luke said as they walked down another corridor.

Shawn is my friend. Robert started to say.

Luke stopped and looked at him. Rob, think of Lake. Think of him ten years from
now, as cold a killer as Andrew. He would do it. I would rather see Lucky dead
than have him live like that. Luke said and he started walking.

Robert followed. The picture of his son as a killer flashed through his mind.
Lukes right. Death might be better, he thought to himself.

They entered the rooms that Death had given them. Lake was walking Lucky up and
down the living room. He almost forgot he was holding him up when he saw his
father. Lucky would have hit the ground but Luke grabbed him.

Dad! Lake yelled. What is going on here?

Luke sat Lucky down in a chair. They sat and listened as Lake was told of the
situation. He wasnt having any of it. He started for the door. Robert tried to
grab him, but he moved too fast. Lucky had just looked up to see the light about
the door turn red.

Lake stop! He yelled but was too late. Lake hit the ground in pain. Robert was
going after him when they grabbed him.

Dont. You're not going to help him. Luke said holding his friend back. Robert
tried to get free, but Luke was stronger. Mac arrived and quickly pulled his
nephew back into the room.

Lake. What do you think your doing? Mac yelled.

Im going home, he said through his tears.

Wake up, kid. You are home. Mac said pulling Lakes face up to his. Listen to
me and listen good. The only thing out of your mouth to these men are 'Yes Sir'
and 'No Sir'. Unlike Lucky, you arent Deaths grandson. He might decide you're
not needed and that would make you dead. So do what you're told and stay out of
trouble.

Mac let him go and looked at his brother. Robert. I know you don't understand,
but I do care what happens to you and Lake. I dont want to see you get hurt.
Mac said before leaving them alone.

Macs right, Lake. Luke said.

What do you mean? he asked sarcastically.

Luke didnt speak he turned around and pulled up his shirt. I got these because
I told you're father where to find us. He wouldnt think twice of turning on you
or you're father. So, kid do us all a favor and stay out of trouble. he said
and then helped Lucky out of the room to leave Robert with his son.

Lake. I know this is going to be hard. It is on all of us. I need you to think
before you react. I cant get us out of here and worry about you at the same
time. Robert said.

Dad. I hate it here. Lake said.

Lake. I dont like either and neither does Lucky or Luke. We cant do anything
about it right now. We have to wait until things calm down. A few days from now
these devices will be gone and you can go anywhere, But Lake, dont go near the
airstrips or the docks. You will end up dead. Son, this is no game. These men
are playing for keeps. Robert warned.

All right dad, but what do they want? Lake asked.

They want me and Luke to kill Shawn. Robert said.

No. You cant kill Uncle Shawn. Lake pleaded his father.

Lake. I have no choice. I would be dead and you will grow up here if I dont.
Im choosing you over Shawn. My life doesnt count, but I will be dammed if I
leave you here alone. Robert said putting his arm around his son.

The rest of the night was quiet. Andrew showed up an hour before the lights were
turned out to check on things. Lukes hate toward him was obvious and Robert
didnt like him either. Something wasnt quite right about him.

Your plane is leaving at six in the morning. I would be at the strip at least
by five thirty. Andrew said. And Lucky and Lake are to be at my office at
eight. I have things to keep them busy.

Andrew left and Lucky and Lake headed for bed. Robert knew he wasn't going to
sleep. So, he sat down and picked up a book. Luke just looks at him. Robert,
lets go on the deck. he said.

They stepped outside into the cold night air. Whats up? Robert asked.

Do you like Andrew. Luke asked after he turned up the radio he brought out.

No. He is a snake. Robert said.

I want to run some things by you. Luke said pulling up a chair.

All right. Go for it. We arent going sleep much tonight anyway. Robert said
taking the other chair.

Rob. If you started a group like this with Michael and he said after his death
and everything was going to me, what would you do? Luke asked.

Kill you. Robert replied.

Exactly. Im going to tell you something and maybe you can help. Over the past
couple of days, Lucky has been acting weird. Luke started to say.

How? Robert asked.

He would be painting for hours and never hear a word I said. When he does, he
acts as if its normal. Robert, Im worried. Just days ago me and him got in
this big fight and afterwards, Lucky couldn't remember what it was about. Luke
said get up and leaning on the rail.

Weird is right. Ill have Lake look after him, while we are gone and then all
of us will keep a close eye on him. We'll figure all this out. Luke, dont
worry. Robert said.

I am because my son is changing right in front of me and I cant stop it. Luke
said. There is one more thing. Did you get a good look at the painting in the
corner? he asked.

Yes. That is ugly. What is it? Robert asked.

I dont know. Lucky has been painting it and Rob, he doesn't know what it is
either. Luke said.

Robert looked at him. They talked for the rest of the night and in the morning
they woke the boys to say good by. The plane took off toward Washington and to
the fate that waited them.
