| Chapter 24 Steven arrived back in Port Charles with Tracy Quartermaine. It took him a long time to get her set up in an hotel that she liked that guaranteed that Edward or AJ would run across her. He was worried that she would not sit still until the next ELQ board meeting that was in a few days that he hired someone to watch her twenty-four/seven. After getting Tracy in place, Steven stopped by the Spencer house and found Laura packing for her trip. "What's going on?" he asked as he walked into the living room and found Laura putting some of her personally belongs in boxes. "Hi," she said looking up from her packing and looked at Steven with a smile on her face. "Hi," Steven said, "Now, tell me what is going on?" "Well," Laura started. She didn't tell Lucky this but Steven was on of the reason she wanted to leave. She had loved Stefan once but now she didn't know if it was love or that she had picked up some of Luke's treatise from him and she just used him as a replacement. Laura knew she needed to think about Steven and Luke and finally put all her past behind her before she moved on. "I'm going to the Carolina's to think," Laura told him. "Why?" Steven asked as he walked into the living room. He looked at her with a very concerned look on his face about this decision. "Because I see Luke everywhere and no where. I'm fighting to let go and I can't do it here. Also, I'm fight my feelings for you," She told him. "Me?" Steven said feeling a little uncomfortable at that very moment. "Come on, Steven. You had to have thought about it. I'm not only Luke's wife now but also your stepmother. Nikolas is my step grandson. No matter what I told the boys, I feel very strange about this and it worse because part of me cares for you. I just don't know what that means any more. I need time to think and place to do it in without anyone around," Laura told him. "So, you just packing and leaving. What about Lucky?" Steven asked. "Lucky understand this and he knows where to find me if he needs me, but I have to go. Not only for me but also for all of us, I need to figure out where I stand and what I feel," Laura told him. "Is there a chance for us?" He asked but part of him didn't want an answer to that question. "I don't know that is one thing I have to think about," Laura answered. "I'll take that and I'll make sure your son stays safe while you are gone," Steven told her. "Thank you. Our plane leaves tomorrow. Lucky is going to stay at Ruby's and I'm having the house closed up. Lucky doesn't need a lot of supervision, but he does need a friend every once in awhile," Laura said to him. The two of them talked more about Laura's plans while Steven helped her pack. Deep down he was wishing that she would find away to love him again. Steven knew he still loved her and he knew he always would. It was just up to her to see what she wanted to do about it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` At Laura's house in the Carolina's After hours unpacking and getting things set up in the house in the Carolinas, Laura went for a walk alone by the beach. She felt at peace there and a strange connection between her and Luke opened up. "Your out there looking after us?" Laura asked as she looked out towards the ocean. Suddenly the breeze gently blew around her and Laura thought it felt like a hand gently corressing her face. It was then she knew she was home and she found what she was looking for, a place that connected her to Luke. She knew right then that at least for now that what her and Steven had was dead. Her love for Luke was just to great to over come in a few months and may be not forever. Laura at this moment never wanted to leave a place where the connection to him was so great.
