| Chapter Two Lucky woke up to find a dark haired boy around the age of seven looking at him. Hi, Im Nikolas. Im your brother, the boy said. I dont have a brother. Lucky said. Yes, you do. Im the son your mother had before marrying your father. We never met but I know a lot about you. Can I at least be your friend. Nikolas asked him. All right. Where are my parents? Lucky asked him. You will have to ask my father or Uncle Stefan. I dont know. Come on, get up. Lets go by the pool. Uncle Stefan is down there. He can answer your questions and we can swim at the same time, Nikolas said. Im Lucky. I dont know how to swim, he said. Dont worry. My uncle can teach you, Nicholas said, helping Lucky to get dressed. He felt sorry for his little brother. He looked so lost and scared. He wished that his mother, Laura, were allowed to be there with them. He had no love for Luke, but he would like to meet his mother. Nikolas showed Lucky to the pool and found Alexis and Stefan sitting beside the pool. The two adults looked up from their conversation. Nikolas was holding the five-year-olds hand and was slowly pulling him along. I dont like this, Stefan. Alexis said in a low whisper. I dont either. I have no love for Luke, but this little boy should not be held accountable for his father's crimes. Stefan said before Nikolas and Lucky got within hearing range. Hi. You must be Lucas. Im Master Stefan, he said. Hi. You can call me Lucky, said the small boy. Im sorry, but here we go by proper names. You live under our roof. So you go by your proper name, Lucas, he said, hating himself. Lucky should be fine, but not for his brother. Stefan wanted to pick Lucky up and run with him, but didnt have the courage of facing the consequences of failing. All right. Lucky said. Where are my parents? He asked in a small voice. Come here, Lucas, Stefan told him, opening his arms. Lucky went to Stefan and climbed onto his lap. The boy realized right away this man was to be trusted. He wasnt like the lady and the others. Your parents are away right now. They thought it would be safer for you to be with us. You know about the bad man that chases them right? Yes. They knocked them out and took me. Lucky said. I know and we saved you and your parents. They realized keeping you with them was a danger to you all. They want you to say with us until youre older. They will come for you then, Stefan said hating himself even more. Would you like swim? Stefan asked him. I dont know how, Lucky told him. Ill teach you and before long you will be swimming like fish, Stefan said walking toward the pool. Alexis watched and wanted to scream. The lies were killing her, too. I dont want to do this. This was all wrong and they should know it. Luke might have caused Mikkos death, but to her that was no great loss. she admitted to herself. Lucky was a fast learner. He was holding onto the sides of the pool and practicing to hold his breath under water. Stavros was watching from the side and walked to the edge of the pool beside the boy. He smiled coldly and patted Luckys head, but then pushed his head under water. Lucky was struggling to get back up but Stavros just held him down. Stefan and Alexis ran to stop him, but it was Helena that cried out. Stavros. Let him up now, she demanded. Stavros let go of Luckys head and walked away, whistling. Stefan helped Lucky out of the pool and carried the boy up to his room. He hated his brother and was determined to protect Lucky as much as possible from him. Chapter 2 Back to Cassadine Revenge |
