| Chapter 14 Later that night The remainder of the day they didn't sleep through, they spent it with Michael who was now tucked away, sleeping. Carly walked back into the living room where Sonny had just finished a phone call, and handed Sonny a cup of coffee as he eyed it suspiciously and sniffed it. "If you don't like my coffee Sonny there's a nice little place called Kelly's..." "No, no I'll drink it. But you're going to have a cup too rite?" He asked nervously. "Yes." She said as he let out a breath of relief, knowing that she wouldn't make her coffee bad if she was going to drink it too... "Funny." "I thought so." He smirked as she sat down next to him and he put his arm around her shoulders. "How's Courtney?" She asked. "She's good, I called her before. She told me I was an idiot." "Here, here." She said raising her cup in a mock salute. "Hey." "Sorry." She smiled the smile that made Sonny feel all tingly inside. He thought about forgetting what they were talking about and just do her right here and right now. No, he mentally sighed, they needed to talk. "She said I was an idiot for ever thinking I could live my life without you. She was right you know." Carly sighed. "You do know we have some major things to work out and talk about, Sonny right?" She looked up to him. "Yeah." He said running his other free hand through his hair. "We do." "I need you to know Sonny, I wont go back to the way it was." She told him. "I won't live like that, I can't." After she said that it dawned on him. He needed to change. He really needed to change. Could he? Could he change? For her ... he could do anything. "I won't be sent to my room like a little child. I wont have Alexis or anyone for that matter belittle me in my home, I wont have the secrets. If we do all this then it will just be the same song and dance all over again." "You know they're are things I can't tell you, Carly. Not because I like the fact that I keep things from you, because its for your own safety." "I know that." "Do you really?" He questioned. "I'll admit in the past I didn't understand, but after this whole...thing I realized that you can't tell me everything...but you also can't shut me out and tell me nothing. What do you expect when you bring your work home? You have to give me something, so I wont go off with half cocked plans. " I can try..." "No," She told him sitting up. " Try means you can give it your best, but its not a guarantee. Can you honestly change everything that was wrong before? Can you?" "Carly, we won't wake up one morning and everything will magically be ok." "I understand. One day at a time. But we need to ... we need to make it better. When I still had deception you didn't want me bringing work home right?" "Right..." "So, can't you show the same courtesy to me?" "Our businesses were two *completely* different things." "What about an office? Can't you take all your calls, all the contract talks with Alexis into an office? That way you don't have to dismiss me in my own home. I didn't appreciate it before and definitely won't now." She stated firmly looking into his eyes. What Sonny saw, shocked him. Carly truly had changed. She wasn't who she was before and he wanted her now more than he ever had. HE wanted this changed woman. This woman who knew what she wanted and wouldn't settle for less. He knew he could do it. He could try anything just to have her and Michael in his life. "An office...doesn't sound bad." Carly choked on her coffee. "Did you just say that one of my ideas are pretty good?" She said, shocked. "Hey I'm a changing man." His dimpled grin came out. "You know I miss this." She revealed. "Miss what?" he questioned, puzzled. "This. I missed me you and Michael hanging out all day. I miss having moments like these." "Yeah me too." He softly said pulling her back down to him, and just sat like that for a few moments. "You know you've changed so much Carly that I don't know if I still have a place in your life." Sonny broke the silence and said with somewhat sadness. She looked at him shocked. "Sonny, you know that's not true, you'll always have a place in my life, hell you are my life. But everything that has happened made me realize that I was the kind of woman I use to eat for breakfast. The kind i *hated*. And I needed to change. So I am." "You know you still amaze me." "I do?" "Yeah, everyday." "Good." She stated, snuggling up, more to him. The Next day. They decided last night that she and Michael would move back into the penthouse today. Sonny had gone home last night, reluctantly, while Carly packed boxes. She had just about everything packed up, as Sonny breezed through the door, Courtney behind him. "Mornin', wife." He said giving her a full kiss on the lips. "I brought *real* coffee." He handed her a cup as she took a playful swung at him. "See this Court?" She directed her attention to the girl. "Tell me again why I'm moving back in with him?" "Cuz you love him?" "Yeah guess so." "Why didn't you just let my men pack up the boxes for you?" He gestured around the room. "I felt like it." She stated looking at a smug Sonny, knowing he was still reeling over the fact that they all got to stay in the penthouse. Though he didn't forget about the dog, he kind of hoped that she did. And Carly, with her Sonny radar picked up on this thought. "Oh, did I tell you Courtney? We're getting a puppy!" She exclaimed. "Oh really! A puppy? I always wanted one!" "Hey, I didn't say anything about a puppy." The two girls looked at him. "So?" They said in unison. "I don't want a dog. They're smelly, hairy, dirty, pains in the butt. And exactly how are we going to keep a mutt in a penthouse," "So?" "I mean where is it supposed to you know do its business? What if it ruins my carpet or couches?" "So?" He knew this was a losing battle, two females against one poor, poor man. And he couldn't even hope a little bit that Michael would join his side, because he wanted the dog as much Carly. Carly slowly saw Sonny's resolve crumple, so she continued with her conversation. "What kind of puppy should we get?" She giddily said. "Something cute." "Yeah, how about a poodle?" "Aw, a poodle! So we can dress it in little clothes and everything!" "NO!" They turned to the stricken faceSonny. "I *will not* have a goddamn poodle!" The girls just stood there, arms folded. "I'm supposed to have an image here! Hello! I don't think people would find me intimidating if we had a freakin' poodle with pink bows in her hair!" "Bows! I didn't even think about that, Courtney! How cute would a little poodle look in bows!" They continued chatting as Sonny put his head in his hands. He momentarily looked up to see a stupid grin on Johnny's face. He shot him a look and it disappeared, somewhat. What did I get myself into? Sonny wondered. The Penthouse. Carly casually walked into the Penthouse, as if it didn't affect her, that she was back home. She secretly was jumping for joy when Michael picked the penthouse. But she wouldn't tell Sonny that-ever. She missed her home. "So, Courtney?" "Yea?" "How's your room?" "The guest room? It's fine." "Could use some color though right? Its a little ... blah." "Yeah, it could." "Well, guess what? I fortunately for you, have a knack for colors. And I was thinking about..." She grabbed Courtney's hand and led her to the couch, all a while talking about fabrics and paints and all garbage like that. Sonny stood in the doorway and groaned. It would be useless to give his point of view, since he learned that they really didn't care about it. Well, maybe it wasn't too late to get Michael on his side.... "Oh damn, its 11:45." Carly said getting up from the couch and going over to get her jacket and purse. "Where you going?" Sonny questioned. "I have a meeting at 12...remember?" "Yeah, with Jax." He mumbled. "Oh Son, get over it. Could you pick up Michael at 12:30 from the preschool? Thanks. Love ya." She gave him a hurried kiss and a hurried wave to Courtney as she excited the room. "Hey Courtney?" Sonny asked formulating a plan. "Yes?" "Could you, ah, do me a *huge favor*?" "Yes?" "Can you make sure Michael gets home all right? I have a few...things I need to get done." "Fine, Michael, but don't you go and ruin it for Carly, she'll have you ass." She smiled as she waved him out. Chapter 15 Back to Amante |
