**** SCORING EXPLANATION:
You might see the above score and wonder, "what the hell? it was a tie
game? I thought the home team won it by keeping the tying run on third base in
the top of the 9th!!" Well, here's what happened, as best as I can
tell: Basically, the away team (Ken D's team) scored a run in the 5th
inning that wasn't tabulated on the sheet where we track total runs (the
"Innings sheet" we call it). This is extremely rare when this
happens. It appears that Chris A. scored in that inning, although the
scoresheet doesn't indicate a hit for him that inning, nor a reached on error,
nor a fielder's choice. So I'm not sure how he actually came around to
score that run, but it is listed on the scoresheet, if not the Innings
sheet. Thus, we ended the game prematurely----it was in fact tied at that
point (after top of the 9th). Again, it is a very rare occurrance when
there is a scoring error like this.
NOTE: Sacrifice Fly: Eddie R. in the 4th.
NOTE: Ken D.'s 3 doubles tied for second place the record for most
doubles in a game [Most = 4, Chris A.]
NOTE: Chris A.'s webgem was a nice catch of an infield popup against the
fence near the third base dugout---he ranged over from the pitcher's mound just
in time to make the grab. Nominations: Nick W., Scott L., plus several others.
NOTE: Scott L. tagged out Chris A. at 3B in the 6th on the throw from
Cuong H. in RF.
NOTE: Richard J. tagged out Daniel T. at 3B in the 4th on the throw from
Manny C. in CF.
NOTE: Nick W. lined into a double play that went 7-4. Nick hit
what looked like a hit into short left-centerfield. But Daniel T. ranged
over from LF and made a nice catch on it while running, his glove just inches
above the ground. He then doubled off Paul C. at 2nd base. The play
fell one nomination short of qualifying as a Webgem, however.
