Slash fanfiction and the obsession behind it
Most people don't understand how girls can love slash fanfiction, whether it's RPS or plain fanfiction or even original slash. Many people shun it, thinking the slash loving fangirls are freaks or are mentally insane. Many of those oppressors are male and many of them are extravagantly homophobic. All of them probably have a stigma against homosexuality. Miss Azusa Nakajima, a Japanese slash writer who writes under various pseudonyms has explored this subject in detail in one of her books. Her intention is not to generalise slash writers, but to rather explore the social aspects of the genre. She also digs deep into her theories on why girls write this genre of literature and why they become attracted to it. She has views such as girls being oppressed by society, feminism, girls writing this genre for emotional comfort, girls that have prostituted before and girls that are either pro-ana or pro-mia. Most of these traits that us writers have are usually unconscious, unless someone points them out. I didn't notice this at first, but after reading her book, I thought, "She's practically talking about me!"

I am pro-ana and I also write thie genre for emotional comfort. I dislike the ultra-macho ideal for men and I prefer suave dandies over slobs for men. I feel threatened by masculine men and I think it's pathetic how many men my own age are extremely immature.

Miss Nakajima claims in her book that those who have an obvious hatred towards slash writing or homosexuality in general have something psychological inside of them that makes them feel that way. Perhaps they may be in the closet themselves. Perhaps negative views towards GLBT people have been etched into their minds since they were born. Who knows how bigots behave in the way they do.

Although I'm a straight female, I'm absolutely GLBT supportive and GLBT friendly. I don't care how many people say to me, "Oh you write slash stories? Like, homosexual love stories about two men? Isn't that gross?" or something along those lines. I don't care if many people around me are bigots, although I'd wish they'd change their ways.

My point is, please, the world would be a much better place if their were fewer bigots with their pea-sized brains roaming around. They are immature, intolerant, unintelligent and bigoted for their views. I don't know who was the first human being to wrongly declare that homosexuality is a stigma or a sin or whatever. I wish bigotry of all kinds would disappear.

But I will say to all of the GLBT people in the world, "Hold your head up high and don't be ashamed of who you are!"
