The Doctor is (officially) Out
Frasier was thinking deeply as he greeted Roz at KACL. "Hi, Roz," he greeted her, quietly sitting in

his chair.

"Frasier, is something wrong? You're on the air in 5 minutes," Roz spoke from the booth, next to

Frasier. He simply couldn't reveal his relationship with Niles to the public, but something inside of him

urged him to tell the world that he was a homosexual. The show had to start. The first few calls were

rather mundane; a housewife complaining about her husband, and a socially inept student. But the

third call was interesting, and intrigued Frasier.

"Listen, Dr Crane, I'm a married man, and I'm 38 years old. But, I'm having an affair."

The timid voice spoke through the phone lines.

"Oh, quite a confession, I see," Frasier spoke in his usual tone.

The man continued.

"But, you see, I'm having an affair with another man."

The words were like softly tinkling bells in Frasier's head.

"Does your wife know that, um, you are dating another man?" Frasier continued, hiding his emotions.

"No, but she did suspect I liked men on numerous occasions."

Frasier took a deep breath.

"I know exactly what you're going through," Frasier started.

Roz had an inexpressible expression on her face. Perhaps she was intrigued in the conversation as

well.

"You feel confused; you wonder if what are doing is right. You are confused over your propensities,"

Frasier continued.

"Exactly!" the man exclaimed.

"You see, I wasn't quite being honest with myself. I couldn't hide who I was, and yet, people looked at

me odd when I say or do things that surprises them. For instance, I accidently revealed that I went to

my high school prom with my brother Niles. People looked at me in a different way, not only because I

went with my brother, but also because I went to the prom with another man."

Frasier took a deep breath again.

"My dear listeners in Seattle, I must make a confession. I, Dr. Frasier Crane, am gay."

Roz's jaw dropped.

The caller, attempting to rescue the situation with humour, replied, "I kind of thought you were gay and I
actually thought that Niles guy was your boyfriend or something."

For Frasier, this wasn't quite humour. He truly was dating his own brother; that couldn't be revealed,

though.

"Who I am dating is unfortunately, nobody's business. But, I am sure the loyal listeners of my show will

understand."

"Well, thank you, Dr Crane, and I'm glad you came out. I hope that I can come out to the people who

aren't listening to this show right now," the man on the end thanked him.

"That signifies the end of our show, and as usual, I wish you good mental health. Farewell, Seattle,

and this is Dr Frasier Crane."

Suddenly, Gil Chesterton came bursting in the room. "I knew it, sir! I knew you had certain propensities
that only certain people can identify and acknowledge. If I'm not being too pushy here, if you have any

concerns, I can be your confidante."

"Thanks, Gil."

Frasier was relieved that the people around him seemed to understand.

Roz came in the room as well.

"Wow, you suddenly came out of the closet. Is Niles gay, too?"

"Roz, I didn't say this on the air, but Niles is gay, too."

Roz wasn't quite surprised. "I thought so too."

Now the doctor was officially out.
