This was, for me a big concern when we were deciding whether or not to remove our oldest child from school. Then it occured to me that there are different types of socialization - and not all of them are positive. It was wonderful for her to be around other kids her own age, but along with that came the influence of all their different experiences. I wasnt pleased with some of the things that my child was learning about the world - things that should be taught within my own home. We had to consider whether or not that socialization was positive and in harmony with our beliefs and standards. You can always have play dates with friends. We have recently moved to a new city where there is an active homeschool group. The church is less than 10 minutes away and she is able to start attending Young Womens there every Tuesday evening. Both girls attend dance classes once a week. There are many other opportunities to meet and be with other children her own age.. in fact my children are spending more QUALITY time with kids their own age. |
