Copy Work and
Dictation

In a classical education, there is a lot of emphasis on reading and writing. One of the things that a classical homeschool may do is called copywork and dictation.

Copy work can improve a childs writing skills and dictation can assist them in working on their writing skills, spelling, grammar, punctuation etc. Although this is mostly done during the younger grades to encourage their listening skills and penmanship, we are going to begin doing this with Ashley as well. Because Ashley has not had an opportunity to learn handwriting and is still printing, we are beginning hand writing with her this year. Part of that will be through using copy work.
