difficulties, et. al.) as she discovered that her daughters were dealing with various combinations of auditory processing and perception problems, attention deficit disorder, disgraphia and sensory integration dysfunction as well as being intellectually gifted.  Her daughters educational challenges motivated her self-education through books and lectures regarding learning differences.
"When you first begin to grasp the hurdles your dyslexic, ADD or ADHD child may face, it can be overwhelming," says Patty.  "But I found that there really is no need to despair.  These problems are solvable.  You should recognize that these kids are all also gifted!"

As part of her search for solutions to her own childrens' learning differences, in 1987 Patty began her masters level education and practica to become an academic language therapist and was certified in 1989.  She has had over 25 years of experience teaching children and teens with learning differences as well as educating teachers and other parents regarding these problems. This includes 15 years as an academic language therapist.

In those 15 years, Patty has worked with children and teens from ages 6 through high school in private individual therapy and in small group settings in private schools and home school classes.  She has lectured groups on the subject of learning differences and on how to teach spelling and grammar skills with systematic, multisensory methods.  She has also served as a consultant to parents, at times attending with them the ARD meetings public schools require for students to enter their dyslexia reading programs.

Ten years of experience as a home educator of her own children and a niece and a nephew with learning differences led Patty to develop a program of academic language therapy for home school families combining private therapy from Patty with video-taped lessons produced by Texas Scottish Rite Hospital.  She has also served as an educational advisor for home school families with children with learning differences as requested by the
Home School Legal Defense Association.

She has a passion for enabling children and teens to reach their true potential.   She believes it is important to understand the gifts as well as the challenges of dyslexia; to know that learning disabilities are chiefly different styles of learning from the primarily written and spoken instructional styles of most classrooms.  Patty Price Smith is an enthusiastic therapist, consultant, and advocate for those who have learning differences.
