Our Philosophy
The Learning Bridge Preschool was established in 1979. The school was located on 4th Avenue in the Richmond district of San Francisco for 16 years and was relocated to the Sunset district in September 1997 to a residential home which has provided childcare for San Francisco children for over twenty-two years.
It is the school philosophy to provide all those aspects of educating young children that early childhood professionals naturally know to do and are trained to do by attending ECE(Early Childhood Education) classes. The program fosters creativity through art, music, book reading, felt stories and puppets, dance, and by each teacher's own natural creative emphasis. We foster communication, social skills, and cognitive and physical development. Graduating students enter kindergarten with stellar skills.
The school has four main rooms where children may decide to spend their time during free-play time. The "classroom" has many educational materials that a child may work on themselves or in groups. Computer time is a favorite of many students! A teacher provides training in kindergarten skills with a small group of children at each session. Materials in this room foster recognition of the ABC's, numbers and colors. The teacher-to-child ratio is excellent, about 1 teacher to 6 students.
The dramatic playroom provides a fun space where children can dress up, and use their imagination! The "Cloud Room" has various centers; a book-reading area, blocks and legos, cars and train sets, a doll house amd has three tables where the children do art daily, play games, and celebrate many birthdays and holidays throughout the year. The "Sunfower Room" is full of seasonal art created by the children and is the space where children can have daily circles and book readings; we sing, dance, play musical instruments, and swing on our hammock!
**The school also provides one dance class and one gymnastics class/ or music class per week in the morning program as well as a weekly Spanish class**
We believe that children need an opportunity to exercise and get fresh air daily, weather permitting. The school has a large three-level back yard. There are picnic tables for water play and art and an area for car riding, and on the lower level the slides and climbing areas provide a creative environment that invites excercise. The children love to play in the sand area on warm sunny days!
The school provides a safe environment. Each teahcer brings to the program their own expression of individuality and love of children. Our goal is to provide a program where children love to participate and love to learn!
The school makes clear statements to children as to what is acceptable behavior and safe play, and how to take turns and respect their friends. Discipline is not intimidating or harsh. Re-direction and communication are used in place of excessive time-outs for inappropriate actions. Conferences are held with parents whose children exibit anti-social behavior. The children learn the rules and know that breaking the rules is not okay.
The Director and Program Director help to answer questions and solve problems that children and parents have. The Learning Bridge Preschoolhasthe distinctive reputation of having no complaints lodged against the facility during its 25 years of operation!
Thank you for your interest in our school!
