| Peel Model UN- Each year a new topic is selected for students to debate. You will represent a country and take their point of view on this issue. This conference is excellent to learn more about the UN and global issues. It is also a good started MUN if you want to go to SOMA in later on. PSPC- This is a great leadership conference and one that definitely shouldn�t be missed. You are taken away to Camp Trillium (about 2 hours away), where you will enjoy a dance, talent show, nature walks, session groups, and guest speakers and of course many group cheers, which will result in a loss of voice. You can sign up to be a delegate (9&10) or Leadership Developer (11&12). It is a very positive environment and very enthusiastic L.D.�s (student leaders who will lead your group.) This conference will make you feel like you can conquer anything�and you can! SOMA (Southern Ontario Model UN Assembly)�SOMA is a 4 day model UN conference held at U of T. Students will represent one of the countries of the world and will play the part of diplomats from that conference at a meeting of the United Nations. There are 6 council simulations, including the General Assembly, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific, and an African Union Stimulated Crisis. The delgate fee includes a dinner dance on friday night that this year was held at the Hilton hotel. Dates: mid april Cost: approx $90 OMP (Ontario Model Parliament)- This conference is a political simulation of Ontario�s legislative process. Delegates join the political party of their choice, elect a leader, vote for a government, and then debate three pieces of legislation. Delegates are divided into two groups--juniors and seniors, based on grade and experience. Held at Queens Park, one of the perks is getting to use the actual legislative chamber for the debates. Dates: late May (week after Victoria Day) Cost: approx $50 OSLC (Ontario Student Leadership Conference): An amazing leadership conference. Spend three days in London Ontario listening to motivational speakers and participating in leadership development activities. This year's topic theme is "Get Animated", sure to be memorable! Dates: October 28-30 2007 Cost: $125 + transportation + meals J8 (Junior 8): Compete with teams from all over Canada to attend that years G8 summit, being held in Japan next year. There are four topics (this year the topics were Economic Development in Africa, HIV/AIDS, Climate Change/ Energy Efficiency, and Corprate Social Responsibilty/ Internet Property Rights) and teams create innovative, original, realistic solutions to world crisis. The winning team will then meet with the other teams from around the world to discuss ideas and create one joint list of solutions. These are then presented to the world leaders in attendance. Even if you don't win, it is a fantastic way to become more knowledgeable about the issues that are faced everyday.
