Collecting Advice

If you wish to start collecting autographs, there are some things you can do which will increase your chances of receiving your much wanted autograph.

Firstly, send a polite letter to the person in question. Make sure you include your address somewhere in the letter so the person you're requesting the autograph from can return it to you. I also include a 6 inch x 4 inch photograph with the letter for them to autograph. If you're unsure of what to write in a letter, here is an example of what I wrote to Bayer Leverkusen manager, Sami Hyypia recently:

Dear Mr. Hyypia,
My name is Leanne and I'm a Liverpool fan. Firstly, I want to thank you for all the great memories you have given Liverpool fans the world over. You have been a great servant to Liverpool FC and it has been an honour to have you play at Anfield for 10 years. I also want to congratulate you on your recent appointment as the manager of Bayer Leverkusen. I feel it is a well deserved appointment. Throughout your playing career, you have shown great leadership and loyalty at every club you have played for and I think these qualities will serve you well during your management career.

I was wondering if you could send me your autograph. I have enclosed a photograph with this letter that I would appreciate you signing for me. I can guarantee that I will treasure this photograph forever if you could sign it for me.

My address is:


Again, I would really appreciate this small gesture. Thank you for your time and best of luck with Bayer Leverkusen next season!

Secondly, you can increase your chances of receiving your autograph back by including a stamped addressed envelope with your request. If you live in another country to the person you are requesting from you could include local currency or International Reply Coupons (if they are available in your country!) with the request.

Thirdly, write "Do Not Bend" somewhere on your envelope before you post it off. This will reduce the likelihood of someone accidently damaging your autograph

Finally, if you need an address for the celebrity, check fanmail.biz for an address. They have a large amount of addresses and you can always ask on the forum if it isn't listed on the main site
