Building History

To get my information, I went to City Hall and got the exact location. I found out that the address was a Blessing Funeral Home. So we decided to take a look at the Funeral Home , and the secretary asked us if we wanted to have a tour of the main house. We went for the tour of the main house and it was so old we got a picture of the old land mark. Then we went to the library and got some more pictures. Then we visited
the Historical Society and met Fran Nifong, the president of the Historical Society. She told us some information and gave us some old pictures as well.

In 1870, John C. Collier built the house and turned the house into Male and Female College and added on to the house the added part got burned down, but nobody knows how it happened. After a few years, Mr. Collier moved and sold the house to Dr. McKnight. The house has been occupied to the McKnight's since 1909. Then Dr.McKnight met Mr. Blessing and they switched houses so that Dr.McKnight could walk to his office. Then it was a Funeral Home by the Blessings.

The Blessing Funeral home in Mansfield. It also had the first indoor pluming ,Also the Blessing Funeral home had the first Hearse. Fran Nifong gave me this picture.

I felt really good about doing this project because I learned so much about our history that now I know a lot more than I knew.
