The Lightning Whelk got its scientific name in 1958. The Lightning Whelk is known for its bold stripes, which turns out to be lightning bolt shape stripes. The Lightning Whelk was adopted in 1987, and was approved by the Texas State Senate and House. Governor Bill Clemets signed the bill for the Lightning Whelk on April 22, 1987, and was presented with a wonderful Lightning Whelk.
