The Monarch Butterfly By: Alisa B.
The Monarch Butterfly is a wonderful looking butterfly.   The stage of the butterfly begins like this. 1. It starts off in a tiny egg.  2. Then, it becomes a blackish yellow and white striped caterpillar or a larva. At this stage, the caterpillar sheds its skin up to four times as it grows to its full length to about two inches.  3. In its third stage, the caterpillar forms a defensive shield called a chrysalis, or pupa.  This pupa's shiny and lime green with gold speckles.  4. The last stage, the caterpillar pops out from the pupa as a beautiful black and orange monarch butterfly. It was adopted to Texas in 1995.                          Home
