| RICHARD II : Birth: 1367 Death: 1400 British Monarch. Son of the Black Prince, succeeding to the throne in 1377, when he was just 10 years old. During the Peasant's Revolt of 1381, led by Wat Tyler, he promised them redress, a promise that he never fulfilled. After 1396, Richard began a tyrannical disposition, banishing or executing many of the leading statesmen. The opposition against him came to a head in 1399, when he was defeated by Bolingbroke, and was made a prisoner and died, possibly due to starvation, at Pontefract Castle |
