Speedy and Sweety
A Nursery Rhyme for Briana & all Grandchildren who shall follow
Once upon a time
Life was so fine
For a boy they called Speedy
And a girl he called Sweety
So sit back and listen
I’ll tell you a tail
Of a love that would glisten
As big as a whale
But before I begin
I’ll tell you my friend
This story’s a sad one
You’ll cry at the end
But o, don’t you worry
For when you get old
You’ll remember a story
Of love not of gold
So lets get it started
This story of Love
Of a boy they called Speedy
And a girl he called Sweety
In a town by the sea
A boy and a girl
Speedy and Sweety
Would give love a whirl
Her hair was like night
Braided and long
Her height was just right
When he came along
Speedy a blond boy
Who played in the sand
Looked out at the ocean
At far away lands
But Sweety was special
She caught Speedy’s eye
And a girl not a sailboat
Put a spark in his eye
Speedy once told her
He’d build with his hands
A house with a window
Looking out to the sand
As the days and the years
And the months would pass
They would talk of a new life
The time went so fast
So the day finally came
The weather was cool
They said, "now is the time"
Since were out of School
A sailboat was waiting
By the dock at the pier
As they loaded their baggage
They both had a tear
They said their good-byes
To the ones that they loved
And the wind and the water
Then gave them a shove
Off to a far land
They’d start a new life
A boy and a girl
Who now was his wife
The time it went quick
As they sailed away South
On a beach they would pick
A place for a house
It wasn’t to long
After they had arrived
Speedy would build
A house for his bride
In the kitchen a window
That looked to the sea
For Sweaty his true love
He gave her the key
Her eyes were wide open
She opened the door
For the house that he built
Couldn’t be more
She gave him a hug
Yes they were in Love
A boy they called Speedy
And a girl he called Sweety
So a new life began
By the sea and the sand
And the people who traveled
Would stop by their land
Speedy and Sweety’s
A place they would stop
To eat a fish taco
And wear their flip-flops
Sweety would serve them
While Speedy was gone
Catching the fish
Returning by dawn
In a far away land
In the places he’d go
She'd wait for his sailboat
Hoping for gold
While Speedy was fishing
Sweety was Home
He found her a gold ring
And brought her it Home
For Speedy and Sweety
Now I must explain
Love and its treasures
Does have some pain
Now is the time
Don't wonder why
Remember I told you
That you might cry
Speedy came home
And he reached for the ring
The one that he promised
Promised to bring
Sweety was sleeping
She would not wake
Her life she was living
God soon would take
Speedy was crying
They're by her side
The ring in his pocket
He threw in the tide
Years now have past
Since Sweety has gone
A small kitchen window
Looks out to the dawn
Under the ocean
In this far away land
A ring made of gold
Is hid in the sand
And so ends the story
That I have told
Of love and it's riches
Richer then gold
If you feel sad
As if you might cry
Just put on a smile
I'll tell you why
Just remember the time
When life was so fine
For a boy they called Speedy
And a girl he called Sweety
