Loolaville: Real Life Stories: Hold On

Hold On

2:47 p.m. St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Washington, Illinois. Saturday, December 4, 1999.

The Cherokee woman speaks of love and the eternal bonds with the Creator.

The decision to be married is a decison in it's purest form.

Allie holds my arm in hers, and Megan reaches across Allie's lap to hold my hand tightly in her hand. They hold onto me, and a part of me holds onto them as though I could quietly slip away. Tears gather around the corners of my eyes, and I wait and breathe.

The commitment is grand and the process is enormous.

I have been there, and I don't understand how I got so far away from it so fast. The person who wanted to make this commitment with me has changed his mind. What do I do with that? My eyes blur as I watch the priestess place the rings in a basin of incense.

Eternal circles of love with the Creator.

This is what I want. But without him? He is all I've ever known. This is a long road, and this is a painful quest.

Yes, hold onto me.
