| If the Idea of "Someone" Actually Is, Then It's Part of the World I Sometimes Envision. I've spilled my hot chocolate and we've had some good conversation. It will always be that way for us. We talk about our imaginary worlds. We know we are not for each other, so we wonder - where are our people?!?! You insist there is "someone" for me. (He won't mind that I don't eat cheese or salads, and that I often end up ordering from the children's menu. He'll watch FRIENDS with me. On my birthday, he'll call up my best friend and secretly conspire to have her surprise visit me. He'll send me flowers occasionally. When we go to Mc Donald's, he'll know it's Dr. Pepper, fries, and a hamburger every time. Always. And Taco Bell is a soft taco, nachos, and a Dr. Pepper every time. Always. He'll know at least one language in addition to English. He won't try to change me. He'll let me put those weird mosquito netting things around the bed and alphabatize our CDs. If I met him now, he would be okay with my questions. He would see past them to the faith I embody everyday. And eventually he would understand that as independent as I am, and as personal and intimate my faith is, I will need him to hold me in his arms every night and whisper prayers over me. And he will know every day when I do something for him...iron a shirt, rub his back, fix a meal...I am whsipering my prayers as well. His laugh will make me laugh. He will take his time to get to know me. He won't care if I want a specific kind of soap. He'll be able to critique my art - kindly. He won't hold what I've done against me. He will understand why I did what I did, and that I have no regrets. He will teach me as well, and he will help me understand everything again in a more whole, intimate way. He'll make good milkshakes and sing. His faith will be firm in his heart, but his mind will be tender and open. He will love children and will love life. He'll remind me that I'm beautiful.) My mind stretches and I want to believe. |
