Loolaville: Lately

M O R E

Strawberries

I break into the fleshy fruits
removing the pits with my fingers,
then hold the hollow berries
beneath the rushing faucet. One
by one, I lazily rub the dirt
from the tender red skin
and drop them into a bowl.
Later I’ll add a pinch of sugar
and slice each into halves
before storing them in the cooler.
They will taste sweet on your tongue
and when you kiss me,
your lips will smell
like summer.
