WEST NORTH CENTRAL
Badlands, South Dakota
The unique, rippled formations of the Badland buttes blew me away.  I'd never seen anything in nature so powerful yet beautiful before.
Crazy Horse Monument, South Dakota
Built to show the white man that the red man had heroes too, the crazy horse monument inspired me to spend money on souveneirs to support their cause.  When completed, this enormous sculpture will be the largest in the world.  Mt. Rushmore could fit into his head.
Black Hills, South Dakota
This area, named for the dark evergreens carpeting the mountains, provided us with a good hike, as well as a trip to Jewel Cave.

Mount Rushmore, South Dakota
Though not as cool as Crazy Horse, it was still neat to visit with the presidential heads, and finally see the carvings that everyone knows about from when they're young.
Custer State Park, South Dakota
We came for the buffalo, and weren't disappointed.  We spent a few hours and lots of digital charge gawking at a herd of several hundred.
