Italian Genealogy
Genealogia Italiana
My journey down the path to unite with my family in Italia was not as hard as I had expected.  By using a few of the resources listed on this page I was able to obtain copies of ship manifests and census records and to obtain copies of orginal Italian birth, marriage, and death documents.  I also found and contacted existing relatives and went to Italy to meet and visit with my Italian family east of Napoli in the year 2002.    Buona fortuna!  Good luck!
Step One is to obtain a copy of this book:
"A Genealogist's Guide to Discovering Your Italian Ancestors: How to Find and Record Your Unique Heritage"
by Lynn Nelson     (Five star book rating on Amazon.com)
To begin searching the microfilm of original Italian documents, that are available here in the United States at LDS locations, you will need the name of the Italian town and at least one surname and a date of birth, marriage or death which was recorded in Italy.
LDS -- I do not recommend doing your research online.  It is more accurate to go to one of their locations and to do a search for the available micro-films pertaining to the Italian TOWN of your ancestors.
Important:  You must find available micro-films for the TOWN first, then proceed with the surname search on that TOWN's microfilm.  In my opion if you started your search by surname you will end up going down the wrong path!
