Certified Coding Specialists are skilled in classifying medical information from patient records, particularly in the hospital setting.  We review patient's records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure.   To be able to perform this, you must have an excellent background in Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Disease Process and Pharmacology, as well as ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems.

Coding accuracy is highly important.  Besides using the coded information to bill Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies, the information is used by public health entities to monitor patterns of illness, demographics of illnesses, and determines the healthcare organizations revenue.
