Fireworks in the Soul
Dawn broke as usual upon the small
farmhouse. Bright, golden rays bounced
off the brick red roof, and poured into the small windows of the home. Hearts were gay with pleasant dreams, save
one.
“Momma! Daddy! Rikano! Yojiju!!
NOOOOOO!!!!” I felt myself running from the horrifying scene before me. My breath caught deep within my chest, an
ache that seemed to take control of my entire being. Blood suddenly appeared all around me, and I felt myself fall to
my knees. “No, I didn’t do anything
wrong!” I cried and proceeded to bring my hands to my face to cover my eyes,
only to discover the crimson liquid dripping from my fingers. Gasping and gagging, I quickly jerked my
hands away from my sight, nausea travelling to my throat. My world began to swim. Images of my parents and siblings mixed with
the mocking red background. Tears
slowly trickled down my face, and I began to whimper like a child. The four
voices of my deceased family members blended together accusingly. Teshi, you let us die. You
didn’t come fast enough. Because of
your failure, we are gone!
“No! It wasn’t my fault! I tried my
best to get to you as fast I could! I’m not the one that killed you!” I
screamed. Suddenly the thick, deep red
wall began to crumble. Huge chunks
splattered against my head, arms, and shell.
Shrieking, I raised my arms to protect myself, but it was of no use, the
red mold of a wall continued to fall around me, until it completely engulfed
me.
“NOOOOOO!” I woke to my own scream,
heart pounding and mind racing. “Ohh
jeez. It was just a dream. All just a dream,” I said quietly, when I realized
where I was. After a thorough
inspection of my hands, to make sure they were free from the haunting blood, I
placed my face in them and began to cry softly. I was unaware that three bodies had joined my company. April, Mikey, and Donnie had heard my cries
and immediately came running to my aid.
“Teshi,” Don said quietly, placing a
nervous hand on my shoulder. I jumped
and ripped my hands from my face. Three
concerned faces greeted my gaze. “Are
you ok?” Donatello asked. All I could
do was shake my head ‘no’. More
images ran across my thoughts, closing
off my voice. April made the first move
toward me, and took a seat on my left.
“Do you want to tell us about
it?” Mike and Don looked to one
another, then back to me, as I kept
wiping at my eyes and beak. I nodded,
still no words came. Leonardo, who had
been watching the whole scene in the darkness of the hallway, now emerged,
“Why don’t we let her compose herself
first, and have her tell us about it later.”
They all jumped at his opinion, for they hadn’t known he was also a part
of this situation.
“Sounds good to me,” Mike said
softly. His light brown eyes sparkled
with compassion. He hated to see people
sad, for when they were upset, he was upset as well.
“Hey! What’s all the racket about?!” a
grumpy Raphael moaned from the top of the stairs.
April and Venus sat comforting
Teshi. She was talking again, but not
much, for the horrific scenes kept flashing through her thoughts. Donatello on the other hand, had pulled Leo
aside,
“What is it Don?” the blue masked
turtle asked, eyeing his brother curiously.
He was surprised he wasn’t by Teshi’s side.
“I….how did you know you were falling
in love with Venus?” Leo’s stare
softened a bit, and his hazel brown eyes started to sparkle,
“How did I know I was falling in love
with Venus?” he repeated his brother’s words.
“Well, I felt like we were connected somehow and I knew if anything
happened to her, I would never be whole.
It took a while, but in time I realized she was my soul mate.” He looked to his beloved half and
smiled. Sensing his gaze, she in turn
looked to him and returned the warm smile.
Without breaking contact with Venus, Leo then asked, “You think you are
falling in love with Teshi, don’t you?” Don looked up to his brother, dark
brown eyes shining.
“I don’t know. I….maybe.
Ahh, it’s so confusing,” the purple masked turtle moaned and gripped his
head. Leonardo looked back to his
younger brother, and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“I know, it was like that for me as
well. In time you will find the answer
you are looking for.” Donnie lowered his hands from his head, and nodded.
“Thanks.” Then looking back to Teshi
he asked, “Do you think she will be ok?”
The smell of sweat and burning
animosity greeted her nostrils, making them sting. She could hear the strained grunts, as fists made contact with
the punching bag. Swallowing her
irritation, she gathered herself and knocked on the door.
“Who is it?!” the malicious voice on
the other side of the door responded.
“It’s me, Venus. I need to talk to you.” Silence. Following came one last blow to the punching
bag, then finally the opening of the door.
“What about?!” his olive green face
asked, through the half-opened door.
“You know what about!” she stated
sharply, “Why you haven’t spoken with Teshi yet. She wants to speak with you,” You
ol’ anger ball! She finished to herself.
“Ahh lay off me. I’ll speak to her when I want to,” he
replied sassily, and proceeded to shut the door on her.
“Not so fast!” Venus said sharply, and placed her hand on the door to
keep him from closing her off. “Talk to me then! I know what you’re hiding.”
“I don’t know what you are talking
about.” Raph said playing dumb.
“You know very well what I’m talking
about. You have a problem with her! You
don’t like her, and I want you to tell me why!” Raphael rolled his eyes and mumbled a few curse words under his
breath.
“Fine. Get in here!” He opened the
door to let her go by, then slammed it shut.
*
“Teshi, you can go off exploring by
yourself, just keep the mind link open at all times. All right?”
“I
promise. Thank you!”
“You’re
welcome, but remember if you see any humans, hide until you know they mean you
no harm. Got it?”
“Yes
daddy.”
“Have
fun my dear. See you in a few hours.”
“Ok
momma. Bye Ri Ri. Bye Jiju.”
“Bye
Teshi!” *
“Teshi…..” Hunh? Donni? “Hey Tesh, you ok?”
“Why don’t you like her? What has she
done to you?!” Venus shot accusingly to Raphael. The bitter turtle snarled then barked,
“She attacked April, isn’t that enough
to hate her for?!” Venus clenched her fists to her side, to keep from slapping
him silly.
“No that’s not enough! Because you
know as well as I do, that she was only doing it out of fear!” she paused and
eyed the hostile turtle slowly. “So,
what is the real reason why you are so afraid of her?”
“Afraid?! I’m not afraid of her!” Raph
growled, “It’s just that I can’t have her! Just like I can’t have you!” he
emphasized that last statement with a hard blow to the punching bag, making it
explode and sending pieces of vinyl and sand everywhere. Then he looked back to her, ignoring the
mess he had made. “There, you happy
now?! I don’t want to get close to her, because I don’t want to fall in love
with her and have my heart broken. Like
I did with you!”
“Master, when do you think Teshi is
going to tell us what happened to her family?”
“I do not know. We shall have to wait and see. For the time being, we should keep our
distance and let her come to us, when she wants to. Never go to her, unless she asks it, we do not want to overwhelm
her. Let her get used to us, and then
see what develops.”
“Yes Master Splinter,” the young
turtle said quietly, still tucking his father in. Mike’s thoughts were far away however. They were on a love, that wasn’t meant to be. Still, one could daydream.
“Michaelangelo,” Splinter said,
calling his son back.
“What is it Master?”
“I can’t move. You have tucked me in, very tightly my
son.” Realizing that he never stopped
his tucking job, he blushed and loosened the covers a bit from the old rat’s
body.
“Is that better?”
“Yes, thank you,” Splinter said,
bringing his arms out from under the blankets.
Mike simply nodded. “You have
feelings for her, don’t you?” Startled
by the sudden change in conversation, Mikey looked to the wise rat,
“How….how did you know?”
Donni sat quietly on the couch with me. The day had gone by quickly, still I hadn’t let them in on what
had really happened. I cocked my head,
at the sound of someone’s presence.
Leo’s light footsteps could be heard, making their way to Raphael’s
room. Venus had still never come out
from there. He knew Leo must be
wondering what they were talking about, for he was curious as well. Donatello watched his brother lift his fist
to knock on the door, then lower it again when he decided against it. Both knew Venus was smart, and that Raphael
would never hurt her. As silently as he
had approached the door, he left and headed toward his room just as Mikey was
coming from Splinter’s.
“She still in there?” he heard Mike
ask.
“Yeah,” Leonardo stated quietly.
“Oh; I’m sure she’s fine.” Leo didn’t bother to answer their younger
brother, instead pushed by him to his room.
Hmm, I wonder what’s up with Leo. Thinking it could wait until morning,
Donatello looked back to me. I know he
saw that I was getting tired, and he was sitting on my ‘bed’.
“Why don’t you go on to my room, and
sleep on my bed. I’ll take the couch.”
“No, that’s ok. Besides, I think I’m too tired to move at
the moment.” I cracked a grin, as did
he.
“Alright. Have a good night’s sleep.”
“You too.” Once he was gone, I let out the sigh I had been holding in all
day. There was no way I was going to
get a good night’s sleep with all these memories rushing around.
Venus couldn’t believe what Raphael
had just said,
“You are in love with me?!” she
repeated, mostly to herself; the edge in her voice and actions receding.
“Yeah, so what of it now. You belong to Leo!” Raph spat, a little more
harshly than he wanted. The teal masked
female, looked to the ground, at the punching bag clutter and placed her hands
upon her lower abdomen, before replying,
“Yes, that is true.” She looked back
to Raph, with no intention of telling him just yet. Though, he was curious as to why she had done that. It’s
none of his business. He’s not even
part of it, so he can just wait. She
told herself.
“Are you done with me yet?!” Raphael
asked, getting extremely agitated, now that she knew how he felt about
her. It hurt her and at the same time
made her angry, that he could have such an attitude at a time like this.
“Yes, I’m finished. I’m not happy with you right now, but I’m
finished,” she replied, her own fire returning.
“Well, excuse me if I’m not crawling
all over the new broad like the rest of ya are!” Biting her tongue, she rolled her eyes at him and left the room.
April sat in her room, radio playing
softly. She was trying not to think of
all the stress she had been placed under.
This new turtle would mean more responsibilities, more food to buy,
maybe even building an extra room, if she didn’t want to ‘buddy up’ with
Donatello. They do make a cute couple though.
And Donni needs someone to open him up.
She smiled to herself.
Donatello was such a good turtle and friend. Always willing to help out, never cranky (unless he was sick),
and endlessly playing peace keeper. Hopefully Tesh will provide him with the
companion he needs. And hopefully he
will provide her with the strength she needs right now.
* “TESHI!!!!!!
HEEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!”
Running
through thick trees, heart pounding, and adrenaline racing. The field!
No one is there. Where? To the right? Nope, nothing but more trees
and a few bushes. Must be the left
then! Two still bodies, and two more being attacked. NOOOO! Ok, can’t scream out loud. Can’t scream out loud. Gotta hide. Great, the grass is tall enough to hide in. Crawling closer. Closer. Suddenly two
familiar faces come into view, both dead.
DADDY!!!! RIKANO!!!!
NOOOOOOO!!!! *
“Leo, you still awake?” Venus asked
softly, as she walked into their bedroom.
The light was off, and that usually meant he had gone to bed.
“Yes,” came the reply she wanted to
hear. As she made her way to their bed,
she felt herself start to become a little light headed. Picking up on her uneasiness, Leonardo
flipped the bedside lamp on. “Are you
all right?”
“I should be ok,” she said, finally
making it to the bed, “Just starting to feel a bit sick.” The leader of the turtles, took his mate
into his arms and held her close. He
didn’t say anything, for he knew that she wasn’t going to say what really was
the matter. Placing his hands against
her abdomen, he decided to wait until she wanted to tell him.
“All you need is some rest. You should feel better in the morning.” Venus put her hands over his, and pressed
them lightly down. He was caught off
guard, and looked down to her. Though
she was already smiling up at him.
“Do you feel that?” He shook his head no, but then his eyes lit
up,
“Wait are you saying?”
“Yes Leo. I’m pregnant.”
Donatello sat on the edge of his bed,
head resting in his hands. He couldn’t
keep his mind off her. Ok, this has got to stop, or else you are
going to become obsessed with her! Just
be her friend right now. Shaking
his head, he then added, Yeah right.
Easier said than done! Forcing
himself up, he decided an experiment would be good for him right about
now. As he made his way over to the
small lab in the corner of his room a thought hit him. When…..er
if we get together, what if she’s not compatible with me? Stopping dead in
his tracks, he went over what he just thought.
I have to find out if she’s going
to be compatible with any of us, depending on whom she chooses. He stole a glance at the clock. 10:37.
She should still be up. Turning around, he made his way to the door
and opened it a crack to see if she was indeed still awake. What he saw however made him catch his
breath. She was without her cloak and
skirt, something he hadn’t seen yet.
Even when she came back from her shower yesterday, she had her clothing
on. He watched her, as she tucked the
sheets down into the couch, so they wouldn’t fall off. She was so beautiful. I
really hope she doesn’t catch me spying on her. As if she had heard his thoughts, she turned her head in the
direction of his bedroom. Quickly he closed his door, hoping against hope, she
hadn’t caught him.
Paper and pencils lay scattered across
Michaelangelo’s desk, as he sat at it.
Hmm, do I want to draw or write? He pondered, glancing over his materials. He wanted to do something to get his mind
off of her, but nothing seemed to work at the moment. Picking up a
pencil, he let his mind do what it wanted to. Slowly the outline of a
form appeared on his paper. It was a tiny frame, with delicate arms and
legs. A sweet face smiled up at him, and her body was so innocent, yet
inviting at the same time. Hopefully someday, she will be mine.
But until that day comes, I can dream. Looking at it some more, he
decided to draw her without her clothes on, but have her bottom half covered
with a thin sheet. Smiling, he was pleased with his job. Picking up
some colored pencils he began to color her in.
Onward, to…um, it's not there
yet! Well, patience, friends! It will be there soon!
