As Gilmore Girls' Rory, she's got her hands full deciding between two adorable guys. Now, Alexis Bledel stars in the movie Tuck Everlasting -- with a brand new guy to catch her eye.
Meet the Gilmores
Ever go to a rock concert with your mom? Or spend the night with her eating pizza and talking about boy problems? For most of us, the answer is probably no way. But events like these are normal for TV's coolest mom-and-daughter duo, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.
The WB's Gilmore Girls tells the story of Rory and her eccentric mom Lorelai (Lauren Graham). Because Lorelai was only 16 when Rory was born, they're more like sisters than mother and daughter, and talk about everything.
But near the end of last season, things changed as the ever-reliable Rory showed a bit of a rebellious side. Even though she was dating the supercute but nice guy Dean (Jared Padalecki), Rory became more-than-friends with bad boy Jesse (Milo Ventimiglia). When he showed up on her doorstep in the season finale, Rory planted a big kiss on him in front of everyone!
Alexis on Rory
While Alexis isn't going through an adolescent rebellion, she can totally relate to Rory. She, too, attended a private high school, but her fellow students weren't mean to each other like the students at Chilton Prep," Alexis says.
Also, Alexis and Rory both hate sports and love to read -- Alexis' favorite book is Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. And just like Rory, Alexis can't decide which type of cutie she'd pick for a boyfriend, wholesome Dean or rebel Jesse. "I don't know," she says. "I think I'd like a happy medium."
Becoming Gilmore
Alexis' transition from typical high school student to television star began in Houston, Texas. She was 14 when her mother encouraged her to answer and ad for modeling. Alexis got the job and started working during the summers, even traveling to Tokyo and Milan.
After graduation, she enrolled in New York University. Her big break came a year later when she auditioned for Gilmore Girls, got the part, and moved to California.
A Day in the Life
Now, she's a full-fledged TV star on one of The WB's most-watched shows. But don't think it's all glitz and glamour. Most days, Alexis wakes up at 5 a.m., and doesn't get home until 11 p.m. When she's not filming, she memorizes and rehearses her lines. But even well-prepared actors can mess up. "Everyone flubs their lines or does something wrong at some point," she says. "At least the blooper reel makes it all worthwhile."
At the end of each season, the best flubs are shown to the cast and crew. Last year, Alexis had her most embarrassing one yet. "I was supposed to get up from a bed after delivering my lines," she says. "But instead of getting up, my shoe got caught and I fell flat on my face."
At least Alexis gets to laugh it off with cute guys like Jared and Milo. The three spend a lot of time together on the set. But don't worry girls, Alexis isn't dating either one of them. "We're like an extended family," she says with a smile.
Fan Craze
Alexis also hears what teen fans think her character should be doing about her boy problems. "Girls come up to me all the time and tell me they loved it when Dean gave me the car or any type of present," she says. "But they also get mad at me because they don't want me and Dean to break up."
So, will fans be angry if Rory dumps Dean for Jesse? Even Alexis doesn't know for sure. "Rory's going to have to pick up the pieces because she has definitely made a mess of things," she says.
Beyond Gilmore
Alexis plays Winnie Foster, and overprotected 15-year-old girl, who stumbles upon the secret. "There is always a difference between the book and the script because the story has to be condensed," says Alexis. "But it's pretty loyal to the book and that's great."
It's also great that Tuck stars Hollywood hottie Jonathan Jackson. When asked who's the hottest, Jonathan, Milo or Dean, Alexis diplomatically answers: "They're all equally cute."
And we think she is, too!
[a note from Emmie: Waaaah! I'm sad that Alexis and Milo aren't dating :( ]
It's no wonder that the cast feels like a family because that's who the show is reaching -- real moms and daughters. "The best thing that ever happened was when a mother came up to me on the street and told me her daughter decided to learn how to read because of my character on the show," Alexis says. "And then she told me that watching the show is the only thing they do together."
Alexis' life is anything but messy. Besides Gilmore Girls, she's now starring in her first movie, Tuck Everlasting, slated to hit theaters October 11. The movie is based on a classic children's book about a family cursed with eternal life after drinking from a magic spring.
