Some Common Advertising Techniques
(from www.ncte.org)
When writing public service announcement, you need to keep in mind that:

1.  You are trying to get and keep the attention of your audience.

2.  You are trying to persuade people that your issue is important and they should do what you say.

Here are some gimmicks, or ways, that professional advertisers get people to listen!

*Snob Appeal:  "You'll be like the popular people if you do what we say!"

*Appeal to Authority:  Television star, well-known athlete, or a public figure tell people to do what they say.

*Plain Folks:  Opposite of Snob Appeal.  "You don't need fancy stuff!  Simple things work well."

*Appeal to Excellence:  "Only the best is good enough for you."

*Everyone Else Has One:  "You have to do this/have this or you'll be the only one who doesn't."
