Match Reports
6th November 2004
At last a bit of footy again , although when we brought on the; I think they should have been of the marine type!
U 16's Monton 1, Hindsford Bandits 2 Sat. 6 th Nov 2004
Not having played for a couple of weeks the Bandits may have struggled to get going, Wrong!
They were awarded a free-kick in the first minute, and the ball was floated over to the far post where Mike Channel was standing unmarked. He promptly fired home past the Monton keeper to give Hindsford a very early lead.
Monton soon replied and Lance Heath had to make a good save, low down to a well hit shot as Monton tried for a quick equaliser.
It was then the turn of the Monton Keeper to make a good save, when an excellent cross form Daniel Banks was met by Dale Glover and the keeper turned the ball round the post for a corner.
The game was fairly even with both teams trying to pass the ball about in far from perfect conditions.
Hindsford made it 2-0 after 37 mins when Kris Smith cut in from the right wing and unleashed an unstoppable shot past the Monton keeper and this was the score at half-time.
.Half time  Monton 0, Hindsford Bandits 2
With injuries to a couple of players, Hindsford introduced a couple of Subs. but they were still making most of the chances with Daniel Banks and Adam Murphy both going close.
Monton were still most definitely in the game, and as the rain continued to pour down, the pitch got wetter and a few mistakes began to creep in..
That said, both teams were trying to pass the ball about as much as they could and midway through the half Lance Heath had to make another good save to stop Monton pulling a goal back.
Then it was the Monton keepers turn ,making another good save from a close range effort from Daniel Banks
Monton did pull a goal back with 10 mins left when a couple of Hindsford defenders slipped and the Monton forward slipped in to score.
Monton now made a monumental effort to get the equaliser in the last 10 mins but the Bandits defence held firm and managed to keep them at bay.
A good game in terrible conditions with Lance Heath in goal and the back four of Jonathon Banks, Steve Eccles, Adam Farnworth and Matt Mcdonald being outstanding.
Final Score  Monton 1, Hindsford Bandits 2
Scorers Hindsford Mike Channel
Kris Smith

Alan Banks
Fixture: Douglas Valley 4 v Standish 3

MOM: Scott Wadeson
Match Comment: Standish again struggling to field a team but managed to turn up with 11 players. The problem was we had no goal keeper and unfortunately all 4 goals were down to goal keeping errors, but at least the two players who went in goal each half had a go, hard luck boys. DouglasValley opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Standish had controlled the game from the whistle. They then went 2 up in the 35th minute still against the run of play. It was soon after this that Standish struck back with a well taken goal from Scott Wadeson in the 37th minute. 2 - 1 to DouglasValley at half time.
The second half started much as the first with Standish in control and it was at this point in the 50th minute that we lost one of our key players to a 50/50 challenge knee injury and he had to be carried off the pitch, so Standish now down to 10 men. With character and gritty determination Standish struck back with another well taken goal by Scott Wadeson in the 55th minute 2 all. Standish continued to play well with 10 men but again goal keeping errors where to prove costly with Douglas Valley going further ahead in the 58th & 67th minutes 4 - 2 Douglas Valley. I think the most important fact of this second half was the way that Standish continued to play good football with 10 men and always looked like they could salvage some thing from this game. The goal of the match came in the 75th minute when the Standish lone striker Chris Ochwat with back to goal brought a cross down, lobbed it over his left shoulder and smashed a fantastic volley into the top of the Douglas Valley net giving the goal keeper no chance (where was Sky Sports for this one, goal of the season so far). Standish continued to press and looked the most likely to score but time ran out. Final score DouglasValley 4 - Standish 3 (Unlucky boys)

Mossley Common 3 Boothstown 0
MOSLEY COMMON TRAVELED TO LOCAL RIVALS BOOTHSTOWN, A NICE CROWD TURNED OUT FOR THIS LOCAL DERBY, IN THE FIRST 5 MINS BOOTHSTOWN TOOK THE GAME TO MOSLEY BUT COULDNT MANAGE A SHOT ON GOAL, GRADUALLY MOSLEY STARTED TO SETTLE DOWN AND TAKE CONTROL OF THE GAME, IT WAS ALL MOSLEY WHO WERE PLAYING SOME ATTRACTIVE FOOTBALL, IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE AWAY TEAM SCORED, ALEX KILLEY GOT THE FIRST AFTER SOME GREAT FOOTBALL INVOLVING 5 PLAYERS, THEN JACK CAMBELL CAM UP FOR A CORNER AND DIRECTED A GREAT CROSS PAST THE KEEPER, KILLEY GOT HIS SECOND JUST BEFORE HALF TIME, THE TEAMS TURNED AROUND AND IT LOOK ON THE CARDS THAT MOSLEY COULD GET A BIG SCORE, BUT BOOTHSTOWN HAD OTHER IDEAS AND SET THIER TEAM OUT TO KEEP DOWN THE SCORE, THIS WORKED AS MOSLEY ALTHOUGH HAVING ALL THE GAME AND WERE CAMPED OUT IN THE HOME SIDES HALF, JUST COULDNT ADD TO THE SCORE, MOSLEY RAN OUT 3-0 WINNERS, JACK CAMBELL HAD AN OUTSTANDING GAME FOR MOSLEY, BEN CHAMBERS WAS THE PICK OF THE BUNCH FOR A VERY DISSAPOINTING OPPOSITION.
Hindley Youth 1 BlackbrOok 5
This was a comfortable win for a full strength BLackbrook squad on a very heavy pitch.
after only 3m Blackbrook custodian jamesfairhurst tipped a good hindley shot over the bar. on 6m an excellent gareth thomas pass found liamphilpott who made no mistake in opening the scoring but on 9m a blackbrook defensive error enabled hindley to equalise. two minutes later adamgilchrist scored an opportunistic goal to make it 1-2. Blackbrook's technical superiority was emphasised on 14m when liamphilpott scored again from an exquisite adamgilchrist pass to make it1-3. The one-way traffic continued with chriseden making the score 1-4 with a well-measured chip. on 31m Liam philpott was felled when clear on the edge of the penalty area. astonishingly this only resulted in a caution.
The second half showed several unusual interpretations of the offside law to deny blackbrook, but they continued to play good football on a difficult surface. gareth thomas just shot wide on 45m after a passing movement which involved several players. hindley became more frustrated and awful tackles on 55m, 58m, 62m  65m brought no more cautions. justice was done after the last of these incidents when liamphilpott blasted the free kick into the net to complete his hat trick  make the score 1-5. Considering the lack of protection from the referee the blackbrook squad showed commendable restraint.
this was another great team effort, all the substitutes being most effective. Daryl mccartney's strength in the mud was impressive as was luke graham's, Adam Gilchrist's phileden's outstandingly hard work.
