Fixture: Standish 1 v Blackbrook 7

MOM: Robert Smith
Match Comment:
First Half - Poor defending by Standish ended up with a 4 - 0 half time score to Blackbrook, scoring in the 3rd, 10th, 26th and 33rd minutes.
Second Half - Blackbrook started as they did in the first half by scoring again within 2 minutes of the kick off 5 - 0 Blackbrook. At last Standish started to put together some useful approach play and were finally rewarded by a well taken goal by Mike Poole in the 70th minute 5 - 1 Blackbrook. This was not to last however, and Blackbrook scored again in the 72nd and 76th minutes final score. Standish 1 - Blackbrook 7.

Sat. 5th March 2005 Under 16's
Hindsford Bandits 4, Standish 2.
A deserved win for the Bandits, who controlled most of the game, but they almost
let Standish back into the game in the 2nd half.
The first 10 mins were fairly even as both teams tried to test each other out.
The Bandits first effort came from a Ryan Jones shot after good work by Dale
Glover after 11 mins.
Tame shots from a Steve Eccles free kick and a Mike Channel effort shortly after
did not really test the Standish keeper, but a good run and shot from Daniel
Banks did after 26 mins but the keeper saved well.
Hindsford could have had a penalty after 30 mins when Mike Channel was tripped
in the area, but the referee tried to play advantage and nothing came of it.
Another shot by Dale Glover after 36 mins was the last attempt of the 1st half,
at which point the Bandits keeper had not had a save to make.
Half-time Hindsford Bandits 0, Standish 0.
With the half only 4 mins old Adam Murphy almost scored to give Hindsford the
lead they deserved, but the Standish keeper again made a good save.
The Bandits defence of Steve Eccles, Adam Farnworth, Matt Mcdonald and Jon Banks
were playing very well and easily coped with the Standish attacks.
Hindsford took the lead after 10 mins of the 2nd half when a Daniel Banks shot,
possibly with a deflection off Adam Murphy, finally beat the Standish keeper.
It now looked like the Bandits would make the game safe and Matt Durkin came
close a minute later after a good one two with Lance Heath.
Kris Smith was having an exceptional game down the right for Hindsford and Matt
Langin was running the midfield superbly.
Then as sometimes happens, the Bandits became a little too adventurous and left
the back door open, and allowed Standish to equalise after 23 mins.
However, it took only 3 mins for Hindsford to restore their lead when Ryan
Jones hit a superb shot from 30 ydsout , giving the Standish Keeper no chance.
Perhaps the Bandits should have kept it tight for a while, but as they went for
the jugular, they again let Standish sneak an equaliser with a good finish,
after what looked like a suspiciously offside move.
Again the Bandits soon restored the lead, this time Daniel Banks latched on to a
good through ball into the Standish penalty area to fire past the keeper and
make it 3-2 to Hindsford after 33 mins.
Within a minute it was 4-2 and game over with one of the goals of the season.
Dale Glover picked up the ball just inside the Standish half and, seeing the
Standish keeper off his line, aka David Beckham, hit the ball home from over 40
yards, brilliant.
In the end a well deserved win for the Bandits, but they should not have allowed
Standish back in the game quite so easily after twice taking the lead.
Final Score
Hindsford Bandits 4, Standish 2.

RingleyPark V Blackbrook
Blackbrook had to take a depleted squad to Kearsley and a casual observer would not have thought this was a top of the table match. A strong, cold wind and appalling pitch didn't help and both sides only showed glimpses of their undoubted skills. At least it was a sporting contest free of rancour.
All Ringley's goals came from poor defensive work by Blackbrook. Two,(17m, 50m), from goalmouth scrambles, two,(20m, 26m) from being 'played on' when the recipient would have been offside, and the other on 55m from a lack of effective challange.Blackbrook's reply by Adam Gilchrist on 47m was well taken but the chance also came from an elementary defensive error.
Blackbrook improved as the game progressed the best feature of the second half being a 45 metre run by Gareth Thomas, by far Blackbrook's best player, ending with him hitting the bar.
Daryl McCartney's strength in the mud was an asset, Adam Gilchrist and John MacGowan were relatively effective in attacking mid-field, whilst Danny Walsh showed some nice touches in a spasmodic performance.

Match Comment:
First Half - Good spectator game to watch and good football played by both teams. Open first half with plenty of probing but remaining goalless at half time.
Second Half - Hindsford finally opened up the Standish defence in the 52nd minute with a sloppy defended action on the goal line 1 - 0 Hindsford. A number of new players were making their debut in this game for Standish and the first substitution involving one of these players was Mike Poole and what an impact for his first game for Standish. Tremendous run down the left wing from the edge of his own penalty box by Chris Ochwat deep into the Hindsford half before playing a through ball to David Johnson who made a terrific cross onto which Mike Poole pounced and scored. 1 - 1 65th minute. This lead was short lived and in the 70th minute Hindsford struck back 2 - 1 Hindsford. However, Standish were not finished yet. In the 72nd minute a through ball was pounced on yet again by Mike Poole who took a great shot and scored 2 -2 . Standish continued to press, however, from one of these pressing moves Hindsford broke out down the left wing and scored in the 75th minute 3- 2 Hindsford. This was part of a poor 4 minute spell by Standish as they allowed a Hindsford player to shot from mid field and score in the 76th minute final score. Hindsford 4 - Standish 2.
