Blackbrook 3 Hindley 1
Blackbrook reached their first final of the season after overcoming a really good Hindley side who competed for every ball. Blackbrook never achieved their usual fluency, probably a combination of recent lack of games and Hindley's determination. It was a good cup- tie.
Hindley had an inspirational start when an involuntary handball by Adam Ford yielded a penalty which was dispatched with panache. It was 13m before did anything noteworthy when Danny Walsh had a 50 metre run before an alert defender put the ball into touch. On 17m a Daryl McCartney header was well saved by Hindley's excellent goalkeeper. Any thoughts Blackbrook may have had about getting on top were destroyed when a wonderful Hindley chip-shot eluded 'keeper Sean Milligan only to hit the bar and roll over the crossbar. Two minutes later he made a great save from an excellent shot.. The clearance found Liam Philpott who took the ball to the goal line, dragging defenders with him, and then ;astutely rolled the ball across the face of the goal. Gareth Thomas then equalised from 2 metres out. Blackbrook were now having most of the play but creating few chances due to Hindley's obduracy. The two best ones were Gareth Thomas blasting just wide and Phil Eden going just wide from a superb free kick.
It was anticipated that Blackbrook's legendary fitness would bring results in the second half and on 42m a good passage of play between Danny Walsh, John McGowan and Liam Philpott almost put Blackbrook in front. However, Hindley continued to compete well and a Hindley shot on 54m brought another fine save from Sean Milligan. Possession was even and it seemed that extra time was a possibility.
On 78m admirable interplay between Adam Gilchrist, John McGowan, Liam Philpott and Gareth Thomas enabled the latter to score with an unstoppable shot. Then in added time a long throw from Gareth Thomas found Liam Philpott who made no mistake in scoring.
This was a sound performance by the Blackbrook team. Sean Milligan made good saves at vital times, and Phil Eden, Carl McConville, Danny Walsh and Adam Ford all defended well and initiated attacks.
DouglasValley0 , Hindsford Bandits 4
When these two teams met 3 weeks ago, although being in control for nearly all of the game, Hindsford somehow lost 3 - 0.
It looked a similar story today as the Bandits were camped in the Valley half for most of the 1st half, but could not convert their superority into goals.
After 9 mins a Daniel Banks shot hit the Valley crossbar following a corner, then after 12 mins Adam Murphy hit the post with a close range shot.
Adam Murphy almost scored after 26 mins but the Valley keeper made a good one on one save and the ball went for a corner.
The Bandits did take the lead after 32 mins when Dale Glover chipped the ball over the Valley keeper after a good Hindsford move.
Two mins later it was 2 - 0 to the Bandits when Ryan Jones scored following a Steve Eccles free kick.
The half ended with the Bandits so much on top the only surprise was the score was only 2-0
Half time DouglasValley0 , Hindsford Bandits 2
The Bandits started the 2nd half a little slowly, probably thinking the game was already over.
Adam Murphy shot wide after 10 mins , then the Valley keeper made a good save from a long range Dale Glover shot after 15 mins.
There was nothing the keeper could do midway through the 2nd half, when a lobbed pass from Matt Langin, was met on the volley as he turned, to give Dale Glover a superb goal.
The Bandits defence of Matt Mcdonald, Steve Eccles, Adam Farnworth and Jon Banks had coped easily with the rare Valley attacks, and were now trying to push forward more in search of another goal.
In fact it was Dale Glover who completed the scoring, and also his hat-trick, with the final goal just before full time.
A good performance by the Bandits, with Kris Smith, Mike Channel and Matt Durkin also having a good game.
Lance Heath in goal must have been frozen at the end of the game, as he had little to do except keep his concentration.
