A depleted Blackbrook squad played some brilliant passing football today and were worthy winners. The Douglas Valley goalkeeper had a splendid game and the team neither gave up trying nor resorted to foul play.

Blackbrook opened the scoring on 11m with John MacGowan whose performance throughout was awesome.

On 15m Gareth Thomas was thwarted with a great save, something which was repeated on frequent occasions during the match. On 20m an 8-man passing movement ended with a Gareth Thomas shot being pushed away for a corner. However, from that Daryl McCartney scored to make it 2-0.

Five minutes later a flowing movement involving a series of passes between John MacGowan, Adam Gilchrist & Gareth Thomas ended with the latter shooting wide. On the half hour the Douglas Valley 'keeper picked up an awful backpass, but the resulting free kick by Gareth Thomas was well saved & the resulting clearance was put away well by Douglas Valley in a breakaway.

On 34m John MacGowan scored again from a shrewd pass by Adam Gilchrist, and 3m later Adam Gilchrist scored from an equally shrewd John MacGowan pass. Half time came with Blackbrook very happy with their 5-1 lead.

Just after the restart Douglas Valley hit the bar with a cannonball shot. On 50m John MacGowan hit the post after a great individual run & shortly afterwards Liam Philpott was denied by another great save.

Blackbrook continued to play good football & dominate & it was no suprise when Carl McConville scored from a John MacGowan passon 67m. Six minutes later ther was an interchange of passes between Adam Gilchrist & several other players which resulted in yet another great save.

Just before the end Carl McConville scored his second from another well angled pass by John MacGowan to make it 9-1.

Douglas Valley's dangerous No.9 was well policed by Adam Ford & Daryl McCartney. James Fairhurst was particularly industrious & effective throughout. A great team effort was seen today.
