Blackbrook 5 Hindley 1
Blackbrook worked hard for this win against a tough Hindley side. Paul Stevenson controlled this hard-but-fair tackling match well. Blackbrook have yet to recapture their pre-Christmas fluency and Hindley did not help themselves by an aerial game against Blackbrook's tall back four.
The first chance came on 5m when a hard acute angled shot by Liam Philpott from a beautiful through ball by Danny Walsh went narrowly wide. The superb Hindley goalkeeper made great saves from Liam Philpott shots at 10m and 28m.
Blackbrook scored on 30m when a perfect corner by Adam Gilchrist was headed home by Adam Ford and it became 2-0 three minutes later when John MacGowan scored following interplay involving five players. In the 35th minute Hindley converted a penalty confidently after a handball. At 39m it became 3-1 when agreat passage of play between Danny Walsh, Carl McConville and Liam Philpott ended with the latter scoring.
Almost immediately after the re-start Adam Gilchrist scored following a defensive error to make the score 4-1. However, the floodgates didn't open as Hindley defended valiantly. On 48m a Liam Philpott rocket from a free kick just outside the area just tipped the bar and five minutes later Hindley failed to convert a good chance after a good run. 70m resulted the game's only caution after Blackbrook's James Fairhurst was badly tackled. On 75m intuitive interplay between Gareth Thomas and Adam Gilchrist yielded a great chance for Ben Dudley. Sadly the ball sailed over the bar. A minute later Liam Philpott deservedly made the score 5-1.
Adam Ford and Phil Eden were the pick of the Blackbrook defence
